Where to stay - Yosemite, Sequoia, Zion - late July
Hi All:
Family of 4 (2 teenage boys) traveling out west and definitely going to visit Yosemite, Sequoia, Zion and maybe Bryce. We tend not to stay in hotels and dont have gear to camp. If you have any suggestions for cabins, cottages, B and B's etc in any of these locations, would love to get them. I know we're late and just now getting our dates finalized ... leaving Monterey on July 25th and will need to be in Jackson, WY on August 6th just to give you an idea of the timeframe. Thanks for any suggestions! Cheers |
I was recently doing a search for places to take my family near Yosemite. I noticed there was availability in cabins not too far from the park on Airbnb. You might check there, keeping in mind that "not too far" could mean an hour. But there are worse things than driving for an hour through that beautiful scenery.

There are hard sided cabins with bath at Half Dome Village in Yosemite Valley but you'll need to keep checking for cancellations to get one. There are private homes in Foresta, Yosemite West and Wawona. These are located within the park gates but still a drive valley. Friends have rented from https://www.scenicwonders.com/

Thanks to you both ... will start researching right away
|
Also check out Yosemite View Lodge in El Portal -- closest hotel to the Valley.
|
Try The Blackberry Inn on the Yosemite side of Groveland. its a pleasant 20 minute drive into the valley, the rooms are large and comfortable, they will pack a picnic lunch for you and their hummingbirds are amazing!
|
I like to stay in the parks if possible. Be sure to check their lodging availability. It may be too late to reserve but it doesn't hurt to call as sometimes they have cancellations.
|
Be careful with cabin rentals at Zion--there are many that are near the east entrance. But you don't want that--too far. You will better off staying in Springdale. Try Cable Mountain Lodge or Desert Pearl Inn.
|
There are also canvas sided tents at Half Dome (curry) village.
I see some available for late July at this very minute. https://reservations.ahlsmsworld.com...Plan-Your-Trip |
@StantonHyde - we booked Desert Pearl Inn and it looks gorgeous.
@J62 - I tried but no go on anything now in late July. But great idea and will keep searching. Thanks for all the suggestions! |
With Yosemite, I'd stay in the Valley and spring for a room at the Ahwahnee if you can in the summer. Travel is horrible. However, park is stunning this year.
Use internet for cancellations LOTS (I am capable of doing this 10x a day) and you are likely to get what you want. It's much more time efficient than calling and being on hold--also Yosemite hold speech and music is quite awful. |
I posted on your other query, there is a Camp Curry tent cabin showing on July 26. BTW they are furnished with linens etc, you don't need camping equipment. You do have to walk to a shower block but it's worth it to be in the Valley and not stuck in a car.
There are lots of hotel options in Springdale. Desert Pearl is pretty posh and the rooms are huge. I also like La Quinta Inn & Suites. Unusual for Springdale is that they include breakfast (especially like the fake "McMuffins"). Huge pool. Good cancellation policy. Double Queen beds. Rooms are smaller but still comfortable and well equipped. They are also less expensive, which adds up if you're spending a few nights (which you should). http://www.laquintazionparkspringdale.com/ |
Whatever you do, don't stay in Sanger...
