Where to Stay Northern New Mexico in November
Traveling (alone) to New Mexico the first week in November. Plan to hit Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Taos.
Never been. :-) The question is: base myself in Santa Fe and make day trips every day or stay a night or two in Albuquerque, a night or two in Santa Fe, a night or two in Taos? Each city is fairly close to the next, and I'll have a car, but am just looking for advice on the most sensible way to way. And I know there's a lot to see. Thanks so much! |
I'd suggest staying a couple of nights in Albuquerque. Then time in Santa Fe. You can do Taos as a day trip from Santa Fe. And you will likely want to be back in Albuquerque the day before your flight out.

I agree with Kathie, two nights in Albuquerque is plenty, be sure and visit Acoma Pueblo. Then the rest of the time in Santa Fe.

I would go to Taos first, right from airport. Depending on what time your flight gets in, you'll have part of that day; then spend 1 night and 1 full day in Taos and then head down to Santa Fe the afternoon of that 1st full day. A few nights in Santa Fe and then a few in ABQ.

I'm not usually a "stay one night" kind of traveler and I also love Taos. With only a week and 3 possible locations I'd still spend at least 2 nights there. I'd be inclined to spend the rest in Santa Fe and just the night before leaving in Albuquerque. I'm not a big fan of the city.

I agree with visiting Taos first. If our snows start a little early, I'd get your northernmost town out of the way, then head south. Spend a night or two in Taos, then drive to Santa Fe - basically, what DebitNM suggested to you.
