Where to stay near Acadia Nat'l Park

We will be visiting Acadia Nat'l Park in July (3 days) and would appreciate any advice on budget-type lodging for a family of 6. We don't mind staying on the quieter side of the island, but would this be practical for a 3 day stay?

The quiet side would be fine-Mount Desert Island isn't that big, but your best bet for budget is one of the numerous motels along Route 3 before you get to Bar Harbor. Don't really have any to recommend, but there almost always seem to be vacancies along that stretch of road.

We just got back from 3 nights at Bar Harbor Motel and highly recommend it. Quiet and clean. I booked ahead on line and the rate was very reasonable.

Look into some of the cabin clusters along Route 3 as well. These may be very cost effective for 6. I always camp when on MDI but have heard that Hanscom's is cheap and decent. Nothing fancy but nice people. Check the chamber of commerce site at www.barharborinfo.com and click on lodging and then cottages, etc.

Cindyj, I checked out Hanscom's Cottages, they look really lovely but they do not have a cottage that sleeps more then 4. I will check out other cottages using the website you mentioned though, thanks for the info.
