Where to stay in Tucson
 

A friend and I will be in Tucson for a long weekend and we are wondering where is the best part of town to stay? One hotel we are considering is the Sheraton Tucson Hotel and Suites at 5151 E. Grant Road. Is that a good location? We're open to all ideas. Thanks.

While it is not "in town" and requires a car...the JW Marriott Starr Pass is beautiful and has spectacular views at night. I highly recommend it. I don't think they had resort fee, but not sure. Check out their specials!

On the other hand, I would avoid the Westin LaPaloma...in dire need of refurb and charges resort fee.

Hello Debi. Wow, that place does look nice and we will have a car. Unfortunately it's a teensy bit more than we would like to spend. If we can keep it around $120ish or less that would be ideal. But thanks anyway, I appreciate all info. :-)

Check www.biddingfortravel.com and then bid on www.priceline.com. You will get a great hotel at a low price.

I would suggest staying along Skyline Dr. The view are gorgeous, and there are several great restaurants in the area.

If you click on my name, you'll find my trip report from 11/05. We stayed at the Westin La Paloma using Starwood points. I probably would not stay there again if I had to pay full price though.

priceline has a resort category. There are no bad resorts so it's a great way to get a good deal. We've stayed at the Loews Ventana Canyon, Westin La Paloma and El Conquistador, all thru Priceline at huge discounts. We picked these locations for convneience to family living in the area, but they seemd to all be good, but you do need a car.

Check out Windmill Inn at River & Campbell. All suite hotel, in a nice plaza with restaurants, etc. Close to shopping, more restaurants and is in a very nice neighborhood. I live in the Tucson area and we always put visitors to my office up at the Windmill and everyone loved it. The Sheraton on Grant is a nice hotel (I thought it just changed names tho .. maybe I am wrong, I rarely go over to that side of town), and I have attended meetings there, but I think the Windmill location is far superior.

Thanks for all of this great advice. I will be speaking to my traveling companion today and it's probably going to be either Windmill or a priceline bid. I have always had great luck with priceline, but knowing my friend, she'll want us to pick the hotel ourselves.

I recommend the Westward Look Resort in Tucson. Have stayed there several times on a "girls" weekend and my friend and I both really liked it.

UPDATE:

I didn't think my frined would go for the priceline idea, but we decided what the heck, let's roll the dice. We got the Hilton Tucson East for $50/night. WOOHOO!!
