Where to stay in the Hamptons?

My wife and I are planning a short 2-3 days in the Hamptons (never been there, so we don't have a preference for which location - we live in NY and will be driving) at the end of July. We'd like to stay on the beach, but I'm not sure which hotels are good. Seems like everything is a motel-type. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

There are no big hotels out there, only small motels and possibly a B&B. I'm sorry I can't recommend one, but I wanted you to know not to expect anything big. Now, if you're interested in heading out a bit further, I think Gurney's is still there.

If you don't have a house or friends, I would forget it.

All of the motels, B&B's, etc will be booked through Labor Day, guaranteed. Like the previous post says, if you don't have access to a private residence of some sort, forget it unfortunately. (Unless, of course, you get *really* lucky.)

Pablo: If you are looking at weekdays, you should have no problem finding space. Arrivals on Friday or Saturday are probably out of the question. One of the more substantial properties is the Southampton Inn, but it will run in the $275 per night range. You can check out their website at southamptoninn.com and check availability.

You might want to consider staying at a Marriott or similar in central Suffolk county and then making daytrips out to the Hamptons, which will be less than an hour away.
