Where to stay in Teluride
Looking for a place to ski this winter. Any info on Teluride (skiing, hotels, other activities) - both pro's and cons - will be appreciated. Thanks!

We went to Telluride in March. We stayed at nice condos, but they weren't very convenient--a van ride and a gondola to get to the ski hill, an additional gondola ride to get to town.
If we were to go again (which I doubt), I'd stay in town, very close to the gondola so it was easy to get to skiing in the morning and easy to walk around town in the evening. |
What is your price point for Accomodations? If you want to go on the lower side of $$$, try http://www.victorianinntelluride.com/
It is in town, close to the gondola and is about the least expensive option. There are 2 parts to "Telluride". There is the town of Telluride which has the majority of shops, restaurants etc. Then there is Mountain Village that has a small central "village" with limited shops and places to eat. There are several condos in both locations, but more in MV. http://www.visittelluride.com/things...ter-activities http://www.fodors.com/community/unit...s-169265-2.cfm |
Thanks for the info and links! Great info!
So do you have to drive from Telluride to the ski resort? I am a lil hazy about that. We are looking for a place in the $250 range, but would love to go less expensive if possible. Can you get from Tel. to Ouray in the winter? |
Look at pages 68-9 for a map:
http://viewer.zmags.com/publication/...ec#/8cd6d42b/1 Town of Telluride is in the valley/box canyon. The Gondola runs up the mountain to where you ski. Then another Gondola takes you over to Mountain Village. You park in one place [where ever you are staying] and basically leave the car there unless you are taking a daytrip. You then use the Gondola to get between the 3 areas [Telluride, The ski area and Mountain Village]. There is also a mini- bus {The Galloping Goose} that you can take between MV and Telluride. If you want to rent a condo, we like http://www.telluridelodging.com/ You can drive from Telluride to Ouray, it is doable as long as the roads are ok; can be tricky if snowy. 145 to 62 to 550. If you going to Telluride - you can fly into Telluride or Montrose [not sure how many flights a day there are so IF there is bad weather, you can get stuck. I would not fly into Telluride, not the best landing strip]. It will be expensive to fly into either. A bit less expensive would be to fly into Durango. Same things re: limited flights, also a longer drive. About 2.5 to 3 hours. The least expensive flight may be to Albuquerque and then drive, but that drive will be about 5.5 hours. |
