Where to stay in Tahoe

We are planning to visit Lake Tahoe next month, and i am in charge of planning this trip, so i am gathering information on where to stay. We are a family of 7 and have 2 kids with us. Should we opt for a hotel or vacation rentals?

Thanks.

Welcome to Fodors. When next month? If any dates overlap July 3 - 6 you will probably have to search a bit for availability and pay a premium. What is your budget? Tahoe accommodations run the gamut from fairly reasonable to very expensive. That is a big group so you'd need two hotel rooms or a large rental. IMO/IME look on the west or north shores. Looking at a map that would include somewhere in the arc of Tahoma/Homewood around to Incline Village. South Shore is very built up and has bad traffic in the summer. Summer weekends there can be backups/slow traffic anyplace around the lake and there is usually some traffic in Tahoe City especially right at the 89/28 junction. There are large supermarkets in a few locations including Safeway and Raley's - a good northern California/Nevada chain.

We have a budget of around 10k and are most interested in vacation rentals, especially in Incline village. We will be visiting by the end of july from 20th july to may be 27 28.

10k is a huge budget - enough to stay just about anywhere -- I'd certainly be looking a renting a big house and not hotel rooms. Especially along Lakeshore drive in Incline. Also definitely look in Crystal Bay - some wonderful properties with glorious views.

This is a well known local agency, some will be over your budget in July:

Sun Bear also does short Term rentals. Here are some they have for your dates: https://www.sunbearrealty.com/search...ote_price_desc
