Where to stay in Salt Lake City, close to ski resorts.
We are planning a ski trip to Utah, and would like to stay in Salt Lake City. We plan to snowboard at Snowbird, and other resorts in that area. What are some good, relatively cheap hotels in Salt Lake City, that are convenient for getting to the ski resorts?
Thanks for your help!

If, by SLC, you mean downtown, there are a number of hotels in a concentrated area about 6 blocks south of Temple Square. They include Little America, Sheraton, Red Roof Inn, and a few others. I have stayed in several and they have all been fine. I'm not sure what "relatively cheap" means but you'll find SLC hotels are inexpensive compared to the same brands in many other cities.
Since you'll be going against traffic in the rush hours, getting into the mountains from downtown should not be particlarly stressful unless you have bad weather.
The eastern side of SLC is closer to the ski areas but not by too much. The Marriott in the University area is a good hotel. I haven't stayed in any others on that side of town.
There are a cluster of the standard airport area hotels and motels. That would add 10-15 minutes to your trip into the mountains compared to downtown and they are in a pretty sterile business area but they'd be easy to get to and from the airport if that is a concern.
Another option, unless you actually need to be in SLC is to stay in Heber. It is much closer to the ski areas and has several of the chain hotels. It's a much quieter area than SLC but I like it for that reason.
There are also a lot of lodging options in the mountains around Park City, Snow Bird, Alta, etc. More pricey than SLC or Heber but you do have the mountain atmosphere.

We could definitely use more information to help. What do you consider relatively cheap? Do you want to be in downtown SLC? If you want to ski Snowbird and the other nearby ski resorts, I would definitely not stay in Heber or Park City. And definitely don't stay at the airport hotels.

Since it sounds like you want to ski at Little and Big Cottonwood Canyon resorts, it would be more convenient to stay in Midvale, Sandy, or Draper instead of downtown. Since I live in Sandy, I have not stayed in the hotels around here but I agree you can google and find many chains in these areas. A few years ago, I did stay at the Best Western Cottontree Inn in Sandy and was pleased with it. I agree thatPark City and Heber are too far away from the resorts in these two canyons. Have fun.
