WHERE to stay in Ouray, Colorado?

Does anyone have any lodging favorite in Ouray?

There is nothing fancy there but some decent places.

If you contact their chamber of commerce, they have a great visitor's guide they will send out.

They used to have a super web site but I haven't had any success getting into it in a while.

I do have a tourism guide that they sent...very nice but difficult to tell what is decent...I'm not looking for fancy...CLEAN is first priority...and maybe a best kept secret?

A couple of years ago we stayed at the Western Hotel which was a block off of the main street. It was an old authentic hotel with claw foot tubs and old flocked wallpaper on the wall. Very quaint. Ask for the room which is up one level facing streetside. It is Much larger and you can open the Large windows and there are chairs set up so that you have your own rooftop balcony. My sister and I had a glass of merlot at sunset gazing up at the beautiful mountains. We looked at other rooms and this was the best by far. They have a good mexican restaurant downstairs. Check it out. It was one of our highlights of our stay. We rented jeeps and did a couple of trips. The hot spring pool that they had in town was also fun.
Have a great trip
Barb

Cedar,

I dont' know how it is today but several years ago we stayed at a nice B & B named the St. Elmo. All rooms were unique from each other and they had an excellent restaurant in the basement called Bon Ton.

If you go to stelmohotel.com you can see pics and get other info on packages, etc. Good location.

Have fun,

Davidcs

A few years ago we rented a house for a week in Ouray thru cyberrentals.com. It was a great place and very reasonable. That may be an option. There are other vacation rental cites, as well.
