Are you set on Ouray? Not much there if I remember right. I'm sure someone else may have more expertise.
That being said, I highly recommend Pagosa Springs if it's a possibility for you.
The Springs Resort is one of the most fantastic places I have ever been It's a hotel with a natural hot springs. If you stay at the hotel you can go into the hot springs after it closes to the public really late at night. It is a really relaxing place and if your kids aren't too small they'll really get a kick out of it.
Cute little town, too.
We're thinking of taking our kids this summer.
Good luck!

We've travelled for 10 years all over the Rockies and Ouray is one of our favorite towns to visit and base camp from.
We camp but I read lots of people recommending the Victorian Inn. There aren't any 4 star hotels but most I've seen there looked clean and neat.
www.ouraycolorado.com has a comprehensive list of lodging with price ranges and sizes. Click on each one and you get a description, picture and link to the hotels' website and/or email.

Another vote for Victorian Inn. That is where our family always stays when we are there. The have a couple of two-room family suites that have balconies. Very comfortable, clean, and easy walking access to everything in town.
Yes, Pagosa is quite a way from Ouray - at least two or three hours if you go through Durango. I like Ouray much better - Pagosa is just a regular town, where Ouray has much more scenic views, jeep tours, hiking trails, history, mine tours, hot springs, wildlife, etc.
For me, Ouray over Pagosa any day.
