Where to stay in NYC with small kids?
 

Hi everyone and Happy New year to all! Would like to get some traveler insight as to the best place to stay in NYC that is kid friendly hotel with a budget up to $300 per night. I am traveling in 2 weeks and am open to all suggestions but would rather not stay in the Times Square area. Look forward to reading your remarks and thanks in advance!

You will need to give EXACT dates and number of people (the ages of the kids might help also) and beds needed in order to get specific suggestions.

This is a relatively inexpensive time of the year to travel, so you're lucky that way.

With small children, many would suggest the Upper West Side which is a residential neighborhood filled with kids, kid friendly restaurants, museums kids like and easy access to transportation (subways and buses). I believe that some hotels like the Beacon have some rooms with kitchenettes and also have suites for a little more space. UWS hotels are in the moderate price range for NYC and are mostly smaller non-chain hotels.

There are also apartment type hotels in other neighborhoods that have kitchen facilities, but in my opinion the UWS is a better choice of neighborhood.

Ok when me and my family and friends family went there were 3 lids btw we were at Sheration, Brooklyn it was very nice and safe and the metro is VERY close but if u could give a little bit more info on where like brooklyn etc that would be great hope u have a nice trip!!!!

Definitely look at the upper west side. A family-friendly neighborhood adjacent to central park and Mus Nat'l Histy - huge hits with kids. 2 subway lines so easy to get to anywhere in the city. This area is residential on the side streets ad busy - but not frantic like TS.

Check out a suite at the Beacon - so you don;t have to sleep when the kids do (I think you need to cal) - also Lucern, On the Ave, etc.

Rates are rock bottom this time of year - so no need to stay outside of Manhattan.

Beacon is showing the 1 BR suite at $280 per night. This is 2 double bed in the BR a sleep sofa in the LR and a kitchenette.

If you call you might be able to get a better deal - and also check out other discount sites that list hotel names.

I would never schlep kinds from Brooklyn on a trip to NYC. Especially if they needed a rest, change of clothes, etc.

Take a look at the Affinia Hotels. They are well run and the one on 34th and The Shelbourne are in residential areas.

I think you should stay on the upper east side or midtown east or Brooklyn Heights or upper west side. Any hotel you find between 33rd st and 90th street, and fifth avenue and 1st avenue, on the east side. Reasons: on the Upper East Side you have for kids: guggenheim (children love running up and down it, also has a great cafe wtih gorgeous park views that kids like); Metropolitan museum of Art (kids love the Egyptian wing of course, and the ancient greek and roman statues); the Neue Galerie, the Jewish Museum, and the Frick are all great too and all of these museums either have beautiful gardens or are right near central park.

Midtown East: The sites we love with our baby are: FAO Schwartz, the Central Park Zoo!!!!!!!! (best place in NYC for kids IMO), Central Park (again), Grand Central Station which has a cool ceiling with the stars, the Morgan Library (maybe a bit boring but at least a cool building), the East River Ferry to North Williamsburg where you have tons of stores and indoor playspaces for kids, and then two stops after that on the ferry is Brooklyn Heights / DUMBO where you have Jane's Carousel, the promenade, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Pier 6 with the water park, slides, and again there are cute parks scattered around Dumbo, Brooklyn Heights, and Cobble Hill (all walking distance from the ferry stop).

Upper West Side you have: Central Park, the Museum of Natural History, and CMOM ... but I kind of like the East Side better just because there's a lot there and you can always just walk across Central Park to the upper west side.

hpluss1: I think you can safely stop w/ the recommendations. The OP posted on Jan 9 and said their trip would be in two weeks. They are either in NYC right now - or went and are back home already.
