I called the Mandarin Oriental and no dice. The lady was extremely pleasant, but didn't care about the whole military part of my story. So, that one is a little out of our price range, but the 60 Thompson looks great and is $5 under our budget for the Internet rate. I'll look a little more, but I think this one might work ...

60 Thompson is in Soho, a great area for dining and shopping. But it's not near the iconic NYC places like Rockefeller Center, Central Park, Times Square etc. But it would be great for a night I think.

I would suggest The Palace on Madison Ave and it should be in your price range, ask for active duty rates.

Also The Dream Hotel is another good suggestion.

Check www.hotels.com for more suggestions for your dates of travel.

Have a GREAT time.

I think the Central Park South idea. Thinking caps folks...

The hotels along/near CPS are the Essex House (getting not good reviews on tripadvisor), the Ritz Carlton Central Park, the Pierre, the Parker Meridien, Trump (!)

Cindy, did you speak with a manager or just a reservationist?

If you didn't speak with a manager, call back tomorrow between 9 and 5 and ask to speak to the Rooms Division Manager or Reservations Manager.

I am really shocked that the MO would not do anything for you.

If you want to email me directly at [email protected] I would be more than happy to call them for you. That is just ridiculous that they will not come off the price.

It isn't like you are asking for the room for $50 a night.
