Where to stay in Nashville???
 

Hi we are traveling for the first time in Nashville with kids this summer(for business and pleasure). We are spending 5 nights in Nashville. I will need to be able to walk to things because my husband will be using the car for business. We prefer a hotel with a pool and like a nice hotel..

My family always stay at the Embassy Suites. It's great for kids and it has an indoor pool. I do not remember how far it is from everything. Any chance you can drop hubby off and pick him up so you can have the car?

No He needs to visit several offices for work. Do you know anything about the opryland hotel. I have read very good reviews and very bad!! Any comments??

Opryland Hotel has shuttle service to and from Opry Mills....the Radisson is also in that area with shuttle service...as well as a Courtyard and Fairfield(both with shuttles to OpryMills).....lots of others also, just don't know what they are.
I have never stayed at Opryland Hotel, but it is really beautiful...You will get lots of mixed reviews on this hotel.

Girlonthego -- I think this all depends on what you'd like to see and do while you're there. The Opryland Hotel is really . . . something. It is absolutely enormous, has several restaurants and bars and a huge indoor atrium. I'm sure it has a swimming pool, which might be fun for the kids. However, the only things it is near are the Grand Ole Opry (fun to see once or twice, depending on how old the kids are) and Opry Mills (which I seem to recall is kinda' like a theme park). Opryland closed.

On the other hand, if you stayed downtown in Nashville, there are many more bars, restaurants, country music related things to walk to. Your hotel might also have a shuttle that would take you to Music Row (which is mostly just offices of music producers, but there are also a couple of museums, etc, nearby).

Bottom line: I think you really are going to need a car if you are planning to spend 5 days in Nashville. There are lots of good things to see and do, but there isn't one central location that will enable you to see them all on foot. Unless your kids just want to hang out at the pool.

My husband will have the car during the day. He will probably finish working early because we will be on the trip with him. (around 2-3 everyday.) We would like a resort atmosphere. I have just heard such different reviews on this Opryland Hotel!

Girlonthego -- I did read your message where you said your husband needed the car. I'm just thinking that if you plan to sightsee and stay for 5 days, you might want to rent 2 cars. If he's there on business, can he expense one?

Anyway, I've never stayed at the Opryland Hotel, just visited. It is so enormous that they give you a map at check-in to your room. I can imagine that it has some really beautiful suites and some fairly average looking "standard" rooms overlooking the equally enormous parking lot. However, if spending the day at the pool is important to you, it might be the ticket since I doubt many downtown hotels will have pools.

Maybe you could call them to see if they have a shuttle to downtown?

I think you can take one of the water taxis to downtown Nashville from the Opryland area, can't you? Also, Opryland Hotel has lots of different packages, so check it out.

I was recently in Nashville for two weeks. Stayed the first week at the Opryland Hotel and the second at the Wyndham Union Station.

Since you won't have a car--I suggest staying at the Opryland. They have several restaurants, a food court area, and pools. It's also within walking distance to OpryMills and the Grand Ole Opry. I enjoyed my stay downtown because it was close to restaurants and some nightlife. However, since you will be with children during the day--I think Opryland would be better. You can always drive into downtown with your husband to do some of the things there.

Why don't you spend three nights at Opryland Hotel and two nights downtown? Opryland gets mixed reviews in part because the service is spotty and the rooms are very ordinary for the price. But there is a lot to do because it's HUGE and Opry Mills next door has outlet shopping, theaters, Jillians (arcade, bowling, etc.) The downtown days could be spent at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts which has a wonderful children's area, touring the Ryman Auditorium, visiting the State Museum, etc.

Downtown Hilton is also very nice. It is all suite and near Gaylord Entertainment, Ryman Auditorium, 2cd Ave. restaurants, capitol, etc. Very new and nice.

I'd recommend a car if you're going to be in Nashville for that amount of time. There are many wonderful things to see/do, but you will need to be able to get around.
