Where to stay in Nantucket?

I'd love to find a wonderful place in Nantucket - hotel; B&B; house rental, etc. Does anyone have suggestions for someplace special? On or near a beach? Or in town and close to amenities? And this would be rare, but are there any good values in Nantucket?

"Value" is a relative term, but prices fall off starting in mid-October.
Wauwinet is the island's best, but value is no place on the menu there.
White Elephant is an alternative.
Have you searched the archives here?
Lots of info on this topic.

I've had good luck in the past at a B&B called "18 Gardner Street Inn" (I'll give you three guesses what the address is!) I considered it a good value (under $100 during Nov...about 5 yrs ago)..they also included bicycle rental in the rate, which was a good 'plus'.

It isn't on the beach but an easy walk to the main part of town.

The ownership has changed since I've stayed there, but if it's still the same I'd recommend it.

stay away; there are already too many clueless tourists here!

Try the Cranberry B&B--in town, yet close to the beach (the whole island is close to the beach) and a fine deal.
White Elephant is very expensive.

Ignore the nasty Islander posting--he'd be rendering whale blubber if it weren't for your tourist dollars!

we stayed at The Stumble Inne. It was only a 2 minute walk from Maine Street and the hosts were wonderful. It was very reasonable and the Inne was very cozy and comfortable.. check there website out.
Chell and Mike

Do not disregard islander - whale blubber is much more desirable than another SUV. If you do decide to visit Nantucket, leave your car at home, remember that this is an island where people live and work - even when the tourists aren't around. Have some respect - clean up after yourself and try to add to the island instead of just taking away.

Try Cape Cod.
