Where to stay in Martha's Vineyard?
We've decided to postpone our trip to the caribbean, so have decided to stick closer to home and are thinking of a long weekend in the Vineyard. Can anyone recommend a nice Inn? We would like to be in Edgartown since we won't be taking a car, and are looking for the nicest place there. Thanks so much for the help.

Charlotte Inn is the best on the island.
But it's not informal feeling....discourages kids and no food allowed in the rooms, etc.
Rooms vary widely in size and value.
The larger coach house, summer house, and carriage house suites are the best, but very pricey. They book up very early as well.
The more standard rooms are less 'special', but this is a really well run place, right in the heart of Edgartown.

Absolute best in my opinion is the Hob Knob Inn (www.hobknob.com) Great small luxury inn (about 15 rooms) located right in Edgartown whre you can walk everywhere. Very pricey though I believe about $350/night in season $250/night out of season. Great for a honeymoon or romantic retreat not a family place.

The harborview inns aren't quite as nice. Certainly the Charlotte Inn is the nicest on the island. It's restaurant is superb as well - though pricey-75 per person. THe hotels with possible waterviews will be the Harborview, the Dagget House, the Kelly House, and one other I forget. Few of the rooms will have views however, and they are not as nice as the charlotte inn. Dagget House serves a good breakfast on the water (open to all) and Harborview probably has the best view (from its front porch, also open to all)
