Where to stay in Kuai???

My husband and I will be going to the Big Island on a corporate trip in March and we would like to extend our trip to another island. We were thinking of Kuai. Does anyone have any recommendations as to where to stay and what to do there?????

Do you have a budget to follow and what activities do you like. As far as sight seeing there is plenty there is Waimea Canyon, Napoli Coast, Polihale Beach the Fern Grotto if that is reopened plus many others.

You need to let us know your interests and your budget-- and read the Kauai posts going back a couple of years to get a feel for the possibilities.

IMHO the north shore is the best scenery-wise by a landslide. It's also easy to get to the other parts of the island for the simple reason that the island isn't that big. We stayed here and it was terrific value: www.kauaivilla.com It's a VRBO property on the north shore and is one of the units in the Hanalei Bay Villas. See my trip report for more info on that stand alone villa (a rarity for that island) and things to do in Kauai: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34881697

hulajack and ckwald- WE don't rellay have a budget. We were thinking of staying at the Hyatt. What do you think of that???As far as sight seeing we like to do scenic drives and really to see whatever the area has to offer even from a helicopter is fun.

You'll like the Hyatt. It's a great place to veg.

Take a drive up to Hanalei and take a stroll along the bay.

You'll have a budget as soon as you see the rates at the Kauai Hyatt Hotel on Poipu.

rj: You'll get a really good idea of the range of things to see & do on Kauai by reading about it here, under "Destinations." Suggest you take a look at that, select a bunch that appeal to you, and then come back here with more specific questions. It's a bit hard to make suggestions without knowing what interests you -- the entire island is wall-to-wall scenic drives. And I think the Hyatt's a great place to stay--though we feel the landscape in that part of the island is a bit arid for our taste. We always stay on the north shore, with its knock-your-socks-off lush landscape.
