We were in Maui in June 2002 for our honeymoon. We definitely preferred Kanipalli beach to any other area. Wailai was nice, but 45 minutes form the town Lahaina (lots of shops and restaurants), where Kanipalli is only about 10 minutes from town.
We stayed at the Westin - 2 hotels away from the Hyatt. The Westin was great. All of the chain hotels along that strip of beach were very nice (there is also a Marriott and a Sheraton (looked really nice).
have a great trip.....

I think we are the only 2 people on this board that actually LOVE staying in Kapalua.I am tired of hearing how bad the weather is-it was perfect when we were there and the winds were NOT anything like people described. Either we were very lucky or it's being blown (literally) out of proportion. We are staying at the Ritz again this year. The Kapalua Bay hotel looked fabulous too!! For luxury and serenity, it is Kapalua hands down.

Well, I guess I have not stayed in the best ... but my sister and I loved the Embassy Suites at Kaanapali Beach. The beach was awesome along w/the breakfast that was included each morning. The pool was nice too. Nice to be close to Lahaina for shopping and eating.

Remember you are talking about about Hawaii ! Numero UNO. The various islands are a distinction of 1A, 1B etc.
The choice is about your purpose. Kauai is probably the most beautiful spot on earth. (Hike the trail above the Napili coast...oh my gawd!) But Maui is only a fraction behind and has more of the young crowd. True urban nightlife is only on Oahu in Honolulu. The Big Island is about resorts, volcanos and big game fishing...its another thing again. Cannot lose which ever you choose.

The Hyatt in Kauai is outstanding. Beautiful grounds, nice spa, wonderful pools.
The Hyatt on Maui is the most beautiful Hotel along the beach known as Kaanapali. We have stayed there twice and in Nov stayed at the Marriott Ocean Club. We walked down to the Hyatt and it is still the nicest hotel along that walk.
