Where to stay in Idaho between Salt Lake City and West Yellowstone

We'll be flying into Salt Lake City in July and driving to Mammoth Hot Springs. Most likely we'll enter the parks via West Yellowstone, but would prefer to stay somewhere else for two nights in Idaho.

Any especially scenic locations that may have gentle walks and interesting things to do, Not looking for night life or entertainment. Nature and the scenery are entertainment enough. Need space for 8 adults.

It might take a little driving but Sun Valley is just beautiful and it has a number of things to do, including good restaurants, spas, entertainment, hiking, whatnot.

Don't want to go too far out of our way to go to Sun Valley. May now stay one night in Salt Lake or Park City and just one night along the way. Is Idaho Falls a suitable halfway spot?

Yes Idaho Falls is a suitable halfway stop. We stayed in the Best Western Driftwood Inn which was a good choice. Great beds, and breakfast included. The motel is sutuated directly opposite the beautiful Idaho Falls.
