Where to stay in Hana!

We are planning on visiting Hana either in late December or early January of this year. We would like to stay in Hana one night so we have time to explore, but having a hard time choosing a place to stay. Any suggestions?

First I would suggest you relax and enjoy Hana for 2 nights. Second I love the Homoa Bay House. The tree houses intrigue me, but I have no info.......do a web search for Hana lodging and most choices will come up. It is refered to as Heavenly Hana for a reason.

We loved our stay in Hana. We stayed in the Hamoa Beach House, which was huge (it slept 10) and directly on a rocky beach for $295/night. http://hanaalii.com/HamoaBeach/
After exploring the area though, we found this cottage http://www.hanaoceanfrontcottages.com/cottage.htm which will be my choice next time. It's right across the street from Hamoa Beach and the view is wonderful. It's smaller than Hamoa Beach House, but appears to be better maintained. Keep in mind that unless you want to eat at the Hotel Hana Maui which is pricey you will want to bring your food with you.

Hotel Hana looks reasonable and nice. I have never stayed but found good feedback here when I was planning a trip I cancelled.

Don't even think about the tree houses! We booked one a few years ago, drove all the way to Hana in the rain and drove right back after one look at the place. They are dumps, like something a kid would put up in his backyard - totally soaked and unsafe in the rain.

Hana Aalii has several condos/houses, which are reasonably priced. Go with the recommendations in Maui Revealed book. I stayed in one overlooking the bay recently & it was fine. I dont know if they do 1 night stays.

If you decide to stay for 3 nights, stay at the Hamoa Bay House! We did (thanks Lou for your recommendation!) - actually we talked the owner into 2 nights (they have a 3 night min) and I can't say enough about it. Although not oceanfront, it was the most romantic house I've ever been in, complete with Japanese soaking tub and gourmet kitchen with every appliance and spice you can imagine, at least two dozen candles waiting to be lit, immaculate...I could go on! Here's the URL:
http://www.hamoabay.com/

If you decide on just one night, give Malamalama a look. Don't believe this is the treehouse liz is referring to!:
http://www.hanahale.com/

Enjoy!

We stayed one night at Hani Kai condo's overlooking a private cove near Hana Bay. Very nice with full kitchen and large deck looking over the cove. A perfect place for one or two nights!

http://www.hanakai.com/

Stayed at the Hana Maui Resort and had a fabulous time. Probably the nicest hotel I've ever stayed at in all of my travels. Loved it!

Tam....was in Hana Mar02 for three nights. Stayed at Hale Hana Bay

See www.hanaalii.com for listing.

Hale Hana Bay is exactly as it is described....30's - 40's era....Was once a small oceanview cabin, and has been enlarged....not luxury, more on the budget side, but adequate. Large picture windows to look out at the ocean and relax..

Tammy at Hana Alii Holidays was very helpful with our plans.

Good luck.

RW Farquer/Seattle Washington

Thanks for all the help, and including the URL's! I still haven't decided. I've called a few that have been mentioned and their either not avaiable or has a limit of 2 nights. I am still open to any suggestions.

THANKS!
