Where to stay in Galveston
We're considering taking a 3-night trip to Galveston over the weekend. Of the following, can anyone recommend the best place to stay: Islander East Condos; Galvestonian Condos; Seascape Condos; or Holiday Inn Express. Or any other suggestions would be welcome. Thanks, eb from Texas

I haven't stayed at any of those, but be careful! THere are some nasty dumps in Galveston.
I've stayed at The Commodore and The Flagship. The Commodore was mmm....okay at best, but The Flagship was absolutely awful! They had teenagers running the place and it was in dire need of repairs. Good luck finding adequate lodging! |
I would really look at staying in Kema, it's a close drive to Galveston and has better night-life for the family.

Stay at The Galvestonian, by all means! Excellent pool as well.
Enjoy! |
The Treemont is very nice, too. It's located on The Strand.

Trip Report - We ended up staying at the Islander East Condos and they were pretty nice, but we went down to the Galvestonian and that is definitely where we will stay next time! Very nice and about the same price as what we paid at the Islander East.
If you go on the Bolivar Ferry DON'T risk having any open containers in your car. The DPS officers were staked out on the top level watching folks as they drove in. They were writing tickets left and right for open containers, vehicle registrations, etc. Best place we ate at was the Saltwater Grill. Benno's was pretty good too and we had a good breakfast at Miller's Landing. Enjoyed sitting on the Poop Deck at Seawall. Also discovered The Captain's Table (I think that was the name of it) on the West End - didn't eat there, but the food looked good and the Palapa-style outdoor bar area with the live entertainment was enjoyable. |
Thanks for the update, eb.

Statia, Thanks for your tip re the Tremont. We've stayed there a few times before and love it. We just wanted to be where we could watch the waves from our room and balcony. I think for the Strand area, the Tremont is THE place to stay! And now I think for the beach, the Galvestonian would be my pick. Thanks, eb
