Where to stay in Flagstaff?
 

Going to Flagstaff this weekend, 10/8-10/9 for the NAU football game. Anyone have any recommendations for hotels? Radisson? Holiday Inn Express? Hilton Garden? It would be my husband and 17 year old son.

There are 2 areas with lots of motels, including most of the national chains. One is on the south side of Flagstaff and has newer motels and is not near the RR tracks. The other is along Hwy 66. These tend to be older (although they might be updated) and since they are near the RR tracks, you hear trails at all hours of the day.

And night ... avoid the hotels near the RR track for a better night's sleep!

We stayed at a Quality Inn toward the east side of town. It wasn't all that fancy, but the room was clean and recently updated. They serve a full hot breakfast which is pretty tasty.

Two recommendations, ONLY if you enjoy historic hotels with less modern amenities... The Hotel Weatherford and Hotel Monte Vista are both in downtown Flagstaff. The downtown area is a nice, small, walkable downtown with a number of shops, restaurants, and taverns.

Both hotels will be noiser than a chain hotel, will have less convenient parking, and will be more worn than a chain hotel. But both hotels have a lot of character.

Some scense from Casablanca were filmed in the Monte V (althoguh I can not figure out which scenes) and the doors of the Monte V have the names of the various stars from the 20's through 00's that stayed in the rooms (Bob Hope, Zayne Grey, Gary Cooper, Bogart).

If you are looking for a good local Flagstaff experience, these two places provide it.

Thanks for the info. So I'm guessing that route 66 isn't near downtown? I don't want to be by the RR tracks.

Route 66 goes right thru downtown

FYI, we ended staying at the Radisson near NAU. It was nice and quiet, didn't hear any train noise.
