Where to stay in chicago?

Hi everyone, my husband and I are spending four nights in Chicago. We love to stay in hotels that are located in a neighborhood type atmosphere. I know that michigan avenue is a popular place but may be too touristy. Any suggestions? Public transportation, the El or buses, is also important. Thank you...

I have stayed at the Omni off Michigan a few times. Definately a neighborhood area but easy to get to the main food and shopping streets. I always won it off of priceline. Very boutique style hotel.

We just spent 4 nights in Chicago for the first time. We got the Hyatt on North Michigan Ave. for $65/night. We really enjoyed the location. We flew into OHare, and took the El into town. Bought the visitors 5 day pass for $18/each and used it to get around on the buses as well. Worked out for us, and we would do it again.

I also stayed at the Omni. Very close to a neighborhood of beautiful brownstones and small parks. Cabs are available right outside the front door and getting around downtown areas by cab is pretty inexpensive.

You also might want to try the W Hotels. I have stayed at both of them before and love them. One is on Adams (City Center) and one near the lake. Check out their specials: www.starwoodchicago.com/w_hotels.aqf
