Where to Stay in Central Oregon
Hi! Next September we'll be visiting a friend in Redmond, Oregon. I'm not finding a lot of places to stay in Redmond, but Bend seems to have more selection. Should we stay in Bend, look harder in Redmond or stay somewhere else? Please give me your advice. Also, what's fun to do up in that area?

Well, first, what is wrong with what you’re finding in Redmond? I know there are hotels there. Redmond is a small town, and I’ve mostly been there for hiking. The state park/caves are the main (only?) attractions.
it depends. If you want a more touristy experience, yes, choose Bend. I like the Mcmenamins st Francis hotel. If the whole goal is to hang out in Redmond, I’d probably stay there. And I would assume it’s cheaper- Bend can be expensive.

I guess I was expecting Redmond to be cheaper. We will be staying there two nights, and I've looked on VRBO and AirB&B and thanks to high fees, all the places seem to be close to $200 per night (my budget is $300 total for two nights). At that price, I might be better off to use my Hilton points and stay in Bend.

Don't know your dates but I just plugged in Sept 9 to11 and it returned 11 properties in Redmond under $300 total for the two nights and several more just over $300
Now, If you are there over Labor Day weekend -- It only found 5 properties under $300

Thanks, I'm taking a look at it. The price does seem right. Interestingly enough, I was just reading another forum about how VRBO and HomeAway have changed their business models to be more like AirB&B, meaning that they are charging service fees now. The service fees plus the cleaning fees are basically doubling the price of a two night rental. A hotel might just be the way to go!

The Sleep Inn in Redmond has rooms from $139.night for your dates. Deschutes County (Bend Redmond & Sunriver) is the 4th fastest growing county in the US. Sisters is planning on building 200 new housing units in the next few years.

Here's the place in Bend I mentioned - it's available for your nights - $272
