Where to stay in Carmel for best ocean view - +-$200

Visiting in Carmel (or we could stay in Pacific Grove if you think its better)in May and I need to book a hotel. I am looking for one with some character and the most spectacular ocean view. Please would you give me some ideas? Thank you!

Possibly uppr floors @ La Playa in Carmel. Seaview Inn is across from the ocean. Otherwise most Carmel lodgings are up the hill and only distant ocean views. In Pacific Grove, there are a few B&Bs along the ocean drive.

Also in Carmel Colonial Terrace very close to beach, and San Antonio House.

How about Highlands Inn - http://highlandsinn.hyatt.com/hyatt/hotels/index.jsp

The Spindrift Inn in Monterey is a fantastic small inn. It is in Monterey, not Carmel, but only about a 10-15 minute drive. It is a beautiful place right on Monterey Bay.

Look at Green Gables Inn in Pacific Grove. I think it is directly across the street from the Bay. It is a Victorian Bed and Breakfast, with character. There is another one whose name I cannot remember...Seven Gables? Google.

The upper floors of La Playa would be good. Just check with them about the views. This is a beautiful, historic property, with gardens.

South of Carmel...Highlands Inn and Tickle Pink Inn are high on bluffs. Just make sure you get a room with a view.

We like the Highland's and Tickle Pink for the stunning oceanviews in the Carmel Highland's area. La Playa is a nice property and we enjoyed our stay there but the ocean views don't compare to the prevous two I mentioned. :)

In Monterey, there is the Plaza with beautiful views of the ocean, we also enjoyed a stay at the Spindrift in a king cornere oceanview room, a very nice place with pretty views.

For spectacular, go for a property in the Carmel Highland's area. ***kim*** ((f))

Most amazing sunsets and ocean view we found at the Tickle Pink - up on a hill; lovely rooms with balconies and an intimate feel. Upscale but not snobby. We loved it and wanted to go back after leaving for accommodations at a really lovely b&b in Carmel that enabled us to walk everywhere. From an East Coast resident - one of the best places we have been in southern CA. Northern Ca is our absolute favorite spot; but the south coast Pacific drive is also amazing.

Absolutely agree with previous posters that suggested the Tickle Pink. Quirky name but do not let that fool you. The property was once owned by Calif. Senator Tickle, and his wife's favorite color was pink...thus the name. Ask for Room 14, 16 or 4. You will love the view so much you will hate to leave your room. It is next door to the Highlands Inn which has a wonderful dining room!

I agree that the Tickle Pink Inn is wonderful but the OP is asking for rooms +/- $200. I've only stayed at the Tickle Pink once many years ago and even then it was more than $200. My guess - now it is probably far higher than $200 for an ocean view room.

PACIFIC GROVE: If you are looking for character go for the GREEN GABLE INN or SEVEN GABLES. The GRANDVIEW INN is next door to Seven Gables and is also nice. All will have ocean views of the Monterey Bay.

Check out www.pacificgrove.org for info on the three hotels above. It is a beautiful day in Pacific Grove today!
