Where to stay in Carmel area?

Hi,
Ill be traveling alone for the first time to the west coast looking for peace and pretty views after my mom's passing a couple of weeks ago. I have two full days in the Carmel, Monterey, Pacific Grove area. Have no idea what this area is but highly recommended. The dates are February 13, 2016 arriving in SFco and returning Feb 16th back to San Fco. My plan is to rent a car and head down. I'm a bit nervous of where to stay and doing research right now feels overwhelming. Any solid safe suggestions for where to stay for 2 or 3 nights?
I appreciate your time.
Best clgd

Sorry for your loss.

Any place in Carmel or Pacific Grove, or in several parts (but not all) of Monterey would be fine and safe. What is your budget?

Monterey along Cannery Row would put you next to the Aquarium and several places to eat. Most places in Carmel would be walking distance to all the shops, galleries, restaurants. And Pacific Grove has several B&Bs and nice places to eat.

Sorry for your loss. We love Seven Gables Inn. Beautiful, wonderful breakfast and afternoon snacks, wine and cookies and milk at night

A quiet, peaceful place in Carmel is the Mission Ranch--lovely views across Carmel River to Point Lobos.

If you feel about being a bit away from it all but in an interesting place, consider staying at Asilomar. No TVs, deer wandering among the grounds, walks out to the ocean.

w/o knowing your budget it is really hard to give useful recommendations. But all three mentioned are nice and have their advantages.

Safety is generally not an issue in this area, so no need to worry about that. Carmel Village is quiet and quaint - very walkable, beautiful beach. Pacific Grove has several options with great views along Ocean View Drive. Monterey is busier, so might not appeal as much to you, but if you want views and some activity around, the Monterey Plaza Hotel can't be beat. If you want to be away from things and have some luxury, check out the Carmel Highlands Inn.

We stayed at Highlands Inn in Carmel Highlands, now run by Hyatt and it was lovely and peaceful, beautiful views from the cliffs but it is not cheap, maybe also try Tickel Pink Inn in the same area.
We just ate at Mission Ranch but it also looked lovely.
You really need to provide a budget.
Very sorry about the loss of your mother.

We really love Pacific Grove. Have stayed at Andril's Cottages on Asilomar Ave several times. Very nice accommodations and easy walk to the lovely oceanfront trail. The cottages have nice yards for relaxing outdoors and kitchen/living space - probably more than you need for your short stay but they are reasonably priced and should be quiet in February, which is when we've stayed there too. Many great restaurants including Passionfish and The Fish Wife nearby. Have a peaceful, relaxing trip. So sorry for your loss.

Thank you so much everyone; I was thinking 150-200/night. Is that possible for the area?

I will start looking at your recommendations right away.

Many thanks

Are you locked into that week? Carmel is a "romantic" destination, and you'll be there for Valentine's Day. I checked a couple of places that would be nice for solitude and views, and they're already booked up for your dates.

I meant to list:

Sea View Inn [no TV in room, but internet]
Colonial Terrace Inn
Edgemere Cottages

Oh -- I didn't even consider the dates. >>Carmel is a "romantic" destination, and you'll be there for Valentine's Day<<

That is true especially re Carmel but also in Pacific Grove where there are a lot of 'romantic' B&Bs. . . . You might have better luck finding a place in Monterey.

Thanks everybody for your recommendations. As some of you pointed out, some places were already booked but I lucked out at Mission Ranch. I spoke with a super kind guy there and seems like the property is exactly what I need.

Thanks again and Happy Holidays!
