Where to stay in Bar Harbor, Maine?
We're planning a trip to Bar Harbor, Maine in the Summertime. Does anyone know any special places to stay? Maybe one of those old oceanside mansions that is now a B&B? or any other place that has charm or is on or near the water or near amenities. Thank you for any suggestions.

Lisa, I've not been to Bar Harbor lately, but have done lots of research 'cus we're going in August. Call the Chamber of Commerce and have them send you a brochure. One place I couldn't get into, but looked gorgeous, was the Graycote Inn. www.graycote.com
The Frenchman's Bay room looked really wonderful, but unfortunately is booked when we're there. Check it out tho, just for the pretty picture!!

Check out the Maine Innkeepers Association website at maineinns.com. Tons of info is available on lodging in most Maine towns. Lots of listings for Bar Harbor with links to the individual lodgings' website. A very valuable web site for those traveling to Maine and having no idea where to stay. I just returned from southern Maine and had a ball. Have a good trip.

Bar Harbor Inn is fine--not great for $300/night for an ocean-front room. Continental B-fast is included--why do they have those little tiny juice glasses? Breakfast room was more of a nursery than a restaurant--don't stay here if you want to get away from kids. Bath towels were skimpy too for $300/nt. Hair dryer did not work--asked maid to deal with but after 3 days, it was not. Reading Room Rest is basic resort food--$100 for two but nothing special. View from room is excellent even during morning thunderstorm--actually really cool! After the thunderstorm the sun came out and we beat the crowds for an incredible sunny late morning on Cadillac Mt. Reply if you want more details.

Across the hiway from Bar Harbor Inn is Bar Harbor Motel, get a room on the top level, these are suites. They are at the top of a hill and in the woods, very quite and peaceful and only $100 a night. Take a lunch up to the top of cadillac Mt. it was so cool yo eat lunch with that view, caution there are no bathrooms or drinking water at the top. Did this in the fall and it was wonderful.

Another suggestion is the Quimby House Inn. http://www.quimbyhouse.com/index.html
We stayed there last month and really enjoyed the large rooms ( They also have suites). The ceilings on the second floor were VERY high.
It's close to town, very well maintained and run by owners that care.

Just stayed at the Hearthside Inn and loved it. The owners were very pleasnat and helpful with suggestions for hikes, dining, and just about anything to do with Acadia NP. The inn is beautiful and very convenient to walk into town.
Just a great town and area to visit.
