Where to stay in Bar Harbor?
 

Me and my friends (2 couples and 2 kids of 12 and 17 years old) will visit Maine next August/September.
We will stay at Moosehead Lake at Birches Cabins 2 days, then we'll go to Bar Harbor and we don't know where to stay at a good budget. As we are portuguese and it's our first time in this area we don't have a clue about the prices in Bar Harbor, we rather prefered a Cabin. Can you help us, please?
And about the things to see, do and eat, we know that lobster is a must, but where to eat it, what to eat, all the information and tips we can get will be very useful.

Bar Harbor has generally expensive hotels but here is one B&B that cost less than most of them. It's very nice, centrally located, and well reviewed.

Lobster is served in lots of places in Maine along the coast (not at Moosehead) but you should go to a real lobster pound for the best lobster and best experience. Thurston's Lobster Pound is in Bass Harbor, about a 30 minute drive from Bar Harbor - http://thurstonslobster.com/

Not a cabin, but we stayed at the Cadillac motor inn and found it reasonable and nicely located. www.cadillacmotorinn.com

Thank you very much for your informations. There are lots of restaurants that serve lobster, but definitely we'll try the thurstonlobster. somebody told me about the Five Islands Lobster Co. perhaps we'll try both. Thank you.

There are a number of cottage-type places just outside Bar Harbor. I am familiar with 2:

They are both simple, fairly inexpensive single-family cottages, clean, but NOT "updated". The first has screened porches and a pleasant setting off the road, but is very dog friendly...if you don't like dogs, you probably wont't like it here! The second is simpler, and is across the street from a rocky cove.

Five Islands Lobster Co. is a <b>3-1/2 hour drive</b> one-way from Bar Harbor!

I had no idea that it was so far, I think like an european, everything is near, 3 1/2 hour drive is too much, we have to profit the time.
From here we'll go to the White Mountains.Can you suggest restaurants, hotels or others tips to profit the most of it?

If you're asking for advice in the White Mountains, you should start a new thread. People with White Mountain knowledge won't necessarily open this thread.
