Where to stay family of five Las Vegas

Hi, Can anyone recommend a nice place to stay for five two adults and three young teens in the proximity of everything. Please share positive and negative experiences about locations.
Thanks
Ken

Certainly not a LV expert, since I have only been once. (That was the disclaimer). But Flamingo was perfect for us with our 2 teens. Grounds are great, pools very nice, and great central location. Rates tend to be lower than some other newer properties.

Flamingo is probably the best generic recommendation, but more info from you will help give more specific advice.

* When are you going? (if pool is unneeded due to time of year, flamingo may not be best choice)

* Do you plan to share one room or get two? (if one room, a suite is probably best)

* What is your budget for the rooms? (if you can afford more than flamingo, there are nicer options)

* What things are you most interested in seeing? (the strip is 4 miles long, so you can't be close to everything. I prefer central strip, but if the things that interest you are more north or south, that may influence recommendations.)

Finally, this map will help you get an idea of what is where, and you can click on each hotel name to see their amenities, attractions, shows and restaurants.

Just wanted to mention that many of the hotels will charge you for each one of the kids, doesn't matter how old they are. I believe Paris, Bally's and Flamingo are the exception to this rule - 17 and under are free. Flamingo is a good choice because of the pool and it should be more affordable, especially if you decide to get two rooms.

If you do want to save money and stay in one room, the Holiday Inn Express off Russell Road is a new hotel with two double beds and a sofa bed. It's just a short drive to the strip and there is lots of free parking at all the hotels.

A lot depends on what you want to do while in Vegas and when you will be there. I would suggest checking out the Excalibur with young teens, but if your not gambling then there would be off strip non-gaming recommendations.

I recommend the Monte Carlo. It is on the strip and gives you a real Vegas hotel type feel without the big price tag and it is a bit laid back than some of the more bustling properties. Have a lunch or light dinner in the Brew Pub. Mom and Dad can have a home brew and the kids will be happy with the menu in a comfortable setting.

I happen to like the Strip and Tropicana intersection area with a family. You can check out the NYNY and MGM on the same corner. Lance Burton's magic show at MC is ideal for young teens. ESPN Zone is a fun meal spot for teens (at NYNY). Luxor is a cool place to see and is close as is Mandalay Bay with their Shark Reef. Just catch the free tram at Excalibur.

You can wander down the strip to see the Bellagio fountains within a reasonable walk and continue on to Caesars forum shops if that is of interest. Cross the street and go up the Eiffel tower...preferably at night.

At the MC, you do not have to trudge the family through the casino to get to your room. While there are some families there it is not overrun with toddlers and strollers like Excalibur is.

I would recommend staying at Bally's,usually the least expensive when compared to Flamingo, Paris. Rooms are very nice and I think it is a
good location on the strip, mid way between all the other casions.
It is near the Grand Canyon/Coke place, which is good for teens, games, rock climbing.

I have to say I am getting a kick out of this thread. The OP said nothing about a concern with cost of the rooms but almost everyone assumes he/she is looking for the lowest cost.

Not looking to be negative to anybody here, just an observation....why is that?

jlm...good questions by the way!

I noticed that too, placeu2. Very funny! Probably, anyone with 3 teens is thinking how expensive they are, and no one with 3 teens could afford high end hotels. And anyone without 3 teens wonders how on earth anyone could afford 3 teens, let alone travel!

But, I know there are plenty of families out there with money, so no assumptions here yet.

And, one thing to keep in mind with Bally's is that it uses the Paris pool, which is a pool, but not much more. It doesn't have any of the cool pool features that many other hotels have if this is important.

What happened to the Bally's pool? I was just at it last summer and thought that it was very nice. It is at the very back end of the property and you hvae to walk through the lower level to get there.

placeu2: I'm not surprised that the recommendations are for the lower-end Strip properties. The OP has asked for places for five-- two adults and three young teens-- in the proximity of everything. The higher-end center Strip properties wouldn't be the best choices for families (expensive, more geared to adult pleasures), and the family-oriented places are dumps and/or badly located. The Flamingo and Bally's may be way past their prime, but they have enough to entertain kids in Vegas, which is doing its damndest (thankfully) to become an adult playground again.

I just stayed at the Flamingo in January. The rooms are fine, the proximity to all the venues of the Strip is great, and the pool is fantastic. You can walk across the street to the Bellagio and Caesar's. You are going to end up walking up and down the Strip anyway, so it doesn't really matter where you stay.

I was just at Bally's last weekend - never again? But one thing they definitely do have is their own pool. Poolside service, not so much - but a pool that gets good sun and is fairly easy to get chairs by...

My bad about Bally's pool! I was misinformed and didn't verify the info before passing it along. Sorry.

Thanks so much for all the replies. We would like to get one room for about $200 or so or two rooms for under $125 each or a large suite for under $250, it would be nice if it had a good clean pool and was as close to center as possible. I see a lot of suggestions for the Flamingo along with others I will take seriously also. Any additional comments with this new info?
Thanks
Ken

You might check on Venetian prices. I just got a promo from them for summer rates starting at $149 for select dates and their rooms are all suites. You did not mention when you were going to be in Vegas but Sun-Thurs. room rates are generally lower then weekends, altho I do not think there are any real bargains out there like there used to be (we go frequently and I follow hotel rates carefully).

We stay frequently at the Mirage and I can recommend it quite highly, but not sure about 5 people in one room. They have some summer rates of $95 so 2 rooms might be worth looking into. The Mirage pool is beautiful and very "tropical".

Treasure Island also sends me prmotional info and they say they have rooms from $89 on selected dates this summer. Their pool is kind of just a pool tho.

With 3 teens I'd opt for two rooms if it were me just to get 2 bathrooms and have the additional space.

We stayed at the Monte Carlo with three teens a couple of years ago. We got two rooms for $55 each. Nice rooms. Very nice pool with lazy river concept. We saved so much money on the rooms, it was no big deal for the kids to order pool drinks and snacks while they swam.

MC is very centrally located. Walking distance to many attractions. The Italian place in the hotel is very good too. And they have a food court downstairs with Nathans and McD's which made our teens, and us, very happy.

There's a Residence Inn by Marriott just a block off the strip. It has 2 bedroom/ 2 bathroom plus living room option. Free highspeed internet access. I can't remember if there's a pool or not. Free breakfast in the morning and a nice, light meal served M-Th evenings.

Thanks, everyone, I take all suggestions seriously and greatly appreciated them. Keep them coming. Forgot to mention I am going at a very expensive time, weekend in April. That is why I am trying, if possible to not get two rooms, some places are double what they are in summer. Anyone ever get a great rate in April? Pros and cons of different parts of strip. Anyone enjoy their location?
