Where To Stay Destin

I finally made up my mind it's Destin in August! Where do you think I should stay?

loveybah Jun 14th, 2014 07:57 AM

I came on here because I am looking for the best Florida beach town to go to in August lol. There seem to be so many based on what a person is looking for and I am Canadian and have not been to Florida in a LONG time!

Why didn't you pick Rosemary Beach???

sharon5847 Jun 14th, 2014 09:18 AM

I have never heard of it!

Do you want peace and quiet or do you want to be in the heart of the action?

If you want peace and quiet but close to Destin, choose the Grayton Beach/Rosemary Beach/Seagrove area. These are just east of Destin. If you want shops, restaurants, touristy stuff, etc. stay in Destin itself.

Personally, I would rent a nice condo directly on the beach. Take a look at VRBO. Don't have any specific recommendations but you can read reviews on VRBO and TripAdvisor.

Sharon,
Does this mean you have given up on going to Mexico?

LindainOhio Jun 15th, 2014 05:26 AM

Are you going alone, with a family? Do you want to stay in a hotel, house, or condo? Do you want a busy beach or a more quiet beach? There are lots of choices. VRBO.com is a good place to start if looking for a vacation rental.

There are many choices for places to stay in Destin. We have stayed several times at the beaches east of Destin. They are usually referred to as the Beaches of 30A. The beaches and small towns all run together for about 18 miles, with Seaside being right in the middle. There is a paved bike trail along the road.

Coming in late! Just saw your other thread and immediately thought of Destin.

We love the Rosemary/30A area also (it is a short drive from Destin but I don't think it is quite close enough to all the activities you mentioned in your other thread. It is much quieter area of the beach.

I think you should stay at Sandestin.

Yes, schmerl,I had to give up Mexico. But that's okay because it gives me the chance to visit Florida!

Traveling with two teen boys one who wants to do everything and one who wants to do nothing.

Okay, I'm on VRBO and overwhelmed by the options. Can anyone help me narrow down the selections?

Any condo-plexes I should avoid? Any that you love?

Thank you!

sharon5847 Jun 16th, 2014 11:38 AM

sanibella, why Sandestin, please?

Thanks!

Birdie Jun 16th, 2014 11:42 AM

I've never been to Sandestin but a friend just took a job there and by her description it sounds wonderful.

sharon5847 Jun 17th, 2014 12:25 PM

Thank you I'm going to keep looking there. Could certainly use some more guidance where to stay!

Sandestin or Tops'l are nice. Not sure what you want in terms of activity though. We have stayed both of the locations I mentioned plus Seagrove, Santa Rosa Beach & Rosemary. In all cases, I rented via vrbo. You may have trouble in finding a place unless you are coming later in August when the children start to go back to school.

BTW, in all the cases where I rented a place via vrbo, it was more or less last minute and I paid less than the asking price. We however have never rented in August.
