Where to Stay by the Grand Canyon?
Hello -
Anyone have any ideas for nice hotels by the Grand Canyon? Something besides a motor lodge - Thanks! |
I visited the Grand Canyon 10 years ago... and stayed at a really cute place on the rim of the canyon. I think it was called the El Tovar Lodge... or something similar. Still remember the wonderful meal I had in the restaurant. Not sure if it's still around or good... but it's worth looking into.

My family stayed at one of the canyon lodges run by Xanterra. Check out their website. While it wasn't luxurious, it was a great experience. One or tonuights there would be sufficient. have fun.

Definitely stay rimside in Kachina or Thunderbird Lodge, reservations made thru Xanterra......we always stay on the second floor of Kachina, best views! Second choice, El Tovar, only because the rooms vary in size and third, Bright Angel, which has cabins close to the rim.

I just booked two nights at the Thunderbird lodge for the last week in July. From what I have read the Grand Canyon lodges are booked well in advance. I don't know if I got lucky or this is not a nice place. We'll soon find out with the responses.

El Tovar -- no contest! a wonderful old hotel right on the rim. good food too.
if you're already there -- it's worth pestering the desk about a room -- even when they say there are none -- we got one that way. good to wait until no other travellers are within earshot so the manager feels free to deal with you :-) |
I agree...El Tovar is the best place to stay - it's gorgeous. Not to mention the excellent & pretty restaurant. I remember cozily sitting outside on the deck overlooking the canyon sharing a bottle of white wine before dinner. Heaven!
