Where to stay??

Starting to do my homework for a possible trip to Florida April 2004. We've already done the Orlando theme parks, etc. Looking for beach and relaxation. 3 of us..my husband, me and my 14-year-old daughter. Right now the three places I'm focusing on are Sanibel Island (though somewhat concerned about Red Tide), Sarasota (Longboat Key area) or Islamorada. Just looking for opinions!! Thanks.

How about combining your love of baseball with a museum here in NYC? Today a new exhibit opened at the American Folk Art Museum called :The Perfect Game, America looks at Baseball

Sanibel is wonderful and tough to find places to rent there. I really like Fairfields Sea Gardens Tennis & Beach Resort right by Ft. Lauderdale. A ton of fun for all of our family w/everything close by and right on the beach. Cheap rentals (wave runners and etc.)and kids activities too. Longboat Key is wonderful too

We are also planning a trip to Sanibel in April 2004. It will be our first trip to Sanibel and we are considering Sanibel Siesta as a place to stay based on their website. If anyone has stayed there are has comments, I would appreciate it.
We stayed at Longboat last spring break with a 16 year old daughter and we loved it! The beach was nice and there were plenty of things to do. We stayed at Sand Cay and would recommend it.

If you are looking for nice beaches, you might not appreciate those in the Keys. Lots of rocky and mangrove lined shores. Natural beaches are few and far between (a couple of nice ones at various parks). Most are small and made of imported sand (from the Bahamas). However, lots of chance for relaxation and enjoying the beauty of nature in the keys.

Might I suggest the Brevard County region of Florida. We have lovely beaches and are within easy driving distances to many nice tourist attractions. We have a lovely zoo, with a new expansion. Minutes from KSC, one hour from Orlando. Nice laid back attitude and lots of nice hotels, golfing, shopping on both mainland and beachside. I live in Palm Bay year-round and love the fact that I don't have to deal with heavy traffic like major city dwellers do, but any time I get the urge I can fairly quickly visit Orlando! Anyway just something to think about. Good luck with your trip!

We are headed to Captiva in April 2004! Have been there once before and loved it! Beautiful beaches, sunsets and very relaxing. We are renting a villa at South Seas. I know that Sanibel can be very crowded during March and April. Some of the accomodations that I looked into were already booked! And I started in July! Sanibel has more options for accomodations than Captiva but I suggest deciding rather quickly. Good Luck and enjoy your trip wherever you go!
