where to stay

My husband and I are somewhat handicapped. Long distances to walk and carry luggage is difficult. I would like to find some place out of Washington D.C, to stay and that is close to the subway. Any suggestions are welcomed. I have been there 5 times and it was great.

Try the Harrington hotel near the FBI building within walking distance from a lot of sites.

It is DC itself (particularly downtown) that is the most handicapped accessible - much more so than any place "out of Washington DC".

Just to be clear: Do you want suggestions for a DC hotel or one in one of the neighboring States?

Will you arrive by car or plane/train? If by plane or train, stay in town and get everywhere by taxi. If by car, you might prefer a suburban hotel with freeparking and a shuttle to Metro, then use taxis when you get into the city.

I would add that it is a common misconception that hotels outside the city are less expensive: if they are located at a Metro stop, they usually aren't. And you have to factor in the cost of a longer Metro trip to and from most attractions.

But perhaps cost isn't the factor in your decision, Marcia. Please tell us more about your plans and why you need to be outside the city.
