Where to stay
Myself, my wife and our 15 year old daughter are finishing off our west coast trip next year with a week in Hawaii but don't know where is best to stay! We prefer areas where there are bars, shops and restaraunts to walk around in the evening, has anyone got any suggestions please.
Many thanks

OK, I'm going to help you out here before someone else posts some not so nice advice.
If a stranger came up to you on the street and asked this q how would you respond?
#1 When is "next year"
#2 Where in Hawaii? Hawaii is made up of a lot of islands - are you going somewhere sepcifically?
#3 How much $$ are you willing to spend a night on a hotel?
#4 Is your 15 yr old really interested in hanging out where there are "bars"?
And most importantly, before you post you should type in some information in the "search" option on the thread page - for instance - if you decide that you want information on restaurants in Maui type in "restaurants in maui" and READ all of those threads that come back.
Do this a couple times and you will get LOADS of information. THEN once you are armed with information and knowledge that you have gained from the threads you can come back and ask a question that is a little more specific that the one you began with.
Not trying to be mean here, everyone on this board loves to share their own vast amt of knowledge that they possess, but unfortunately, I do not believe that any of us possess a crystal ball ~ so you have to help us out a little before we can help you!

Here's a good place to start your research on Fodor's. Dusty, and others, lists lots of ideas and good links.

The best place to stay IMO is the Four Seasons Big Island.
But, doesn't have bars and shops and restaurants to walk around in the evening - nor do any of the runners-up I can think of as "best places to stay".
Based on your criteria, I'd say somewhere in Waikiki on Oahu.
