Where to stay?

We want to go to Kauai and stay at Poipu. I know that the Hyatt is the best place to stay, but unfortunately I can't afford it. Has anybody stayed at the Sheraton or the Poipu Kai Resort? Unfortunately we are just now booking for a Xmas vacation so spots are tight. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Aloha Krista!

The Sheraton just re-opened after many years of legal and political difficulties resulting from the Hurricaine Iniki. I would highly recommend it over the Poipu Kai!

A hui hou,
Tiare :)
please feel free to email in Hawaii with any questions! [email protected]

Krista,
I just got back & my friend & I stayed at the Sheraton. We enjoyed it & I would recommend it. Their setting is great. They have a fitness room, restaurant, playroom/lounge, library. Also, they charge a $10/night "resort fee" supposedly to pay for the newspapers & computer services in the library. And if you haven't made any activity reservations, they have activity coordinators who can help you out. Hope this helps.....Barbara

My husband and I stayed at the Sheraton a year ago last August ('98) and were quite pleased with it. I was a little disappointed with the pool area however, it was small by mega-hotel standards, but it is right off the beach, has a hot tub nestled in the rocks and is adjacent to the hotel bar when you gotta have that emergency mai tai! We had a pool/beach-front room which was very nice, but if you want to splurge, there are suite rooms and a few of them have hot tubs on the patios with the absolutely best sunset views in the place! The garden rooms are across the road from the main entrance, but have very lovely grounds (and they have a pool area there too). Don't miss The Beach House for dinner if you want the most romantic restaurant in Poipu! Must have reservations. We still dream about going back to order the Onaga with the ginger cream sauce!

Depends on what you want but if your budget is tight, try Waikomo Stream Villas. They are very nice and very large condos but not on the beach. You can walk to Sheraton. I believe rate is around $89 for 1 bedroom which is about 1100 sq ft. You can then afford to go to some really nice restaurants in the area.
