where to stay

My son(22)& myself are going to Washington DC from Ireland on 19th feb for 5days (4nights)to see the sites. Where is the best place to stay that has a reasonable price, safe neighbourhood & easy acess to the sites. Is it very very cold in feb?
Thanks in advance for your help

You may want to amend the title of your question to "Where to stay in DC?" You'll probably get more responses from those who are familiar with the DC area.

Welcome Finnegan! Check out the Adams-Morgan neighborhood for some reasonable B&Bs. I've stayed there several times. It's easy to catch a train from there.

As for the weather, having been to Ireland last Feb it should be no worse than what you have there. Hopefully a little warmer, but we have had a bad winter this year.

I;ve never been to Ireland in February but my understanding is that it never gets very cold. While DC might well be in the 40's (6/7 celsius) its also possible to have substantial snow and temps in the 20's (minus 5/6 celsius). If you don't have a winter coat bring a lined raincoat and other clothes you can layer as well as gloves, scarf etc. This is especially important in as things you want to see can be a long walk apart and the mall can get very windy.

That is some good weather advice you got in the post above. DC can be very iffy in Feb.
I would also recommend you check Alexandria and Crystal City. Weekend rates are best. Either will allow you quick access to all the sites, plus easy use of the Metro and public transport.
Enjoy your visit!
