where to stay 2 hours from new york

Hi
My husband and I are flying to jfk.. and would like to travel a few hours outside of new york ( in november) and then drive to newark where we are going to the prudential centre.. any suggestions as to areas worth seeing no further than a few hours drive? we have been to manhattan before and would like to see some more of the surrounding areas...

For how long? Is this just a thing to do during the day before your event at the Prudential Center or an overnight or couple of days trip?

It's also a huge area -- you could essentially draw a circle counterclockwise from Mystic CT, through Great Barrington MA, through the Hudson Valley and Catskills out to Eastern PA and Philadelphia and down to Atlantic City -- as you can see a great variety of places. So, rural, suburban or urban?

If you prefer city over country, Philadelphia is a great place to spend a day (or more).

November is not th best time to spendn the county. You could get nice crips days - or very chilly and a lot of rain. also - the leaves will all be off the trees.

There is a ton of stuff to do in the lower Hudson vallley - but that may be more than 2 hours from Newark - depending on traffic.

Agree - is this just a partial day jaunt - or several days?

I'm sure you realize it would have been far better to fly into Newark airport but am assuming that's not an option. When in Nov., your interests and the day of the week will affect some options. Kykuit, the Rockefeller Estate in Tarrytown is lovely but closes on Nov. 6 for the season and is closed on Tuesdays. Lyndhurst is closer to Newark but only open on weekends. http://www.hudsonvalley.org/historic-sites/lyndhurst
