Where To See Tribute In Light?

New Yorkers, besides from a boat or ferry, where can one view the Tribute in Light display from Manhattan? Can you see it from any high point with a view of lower Manhattan? Is there somewhere in the open where it's more visible, without going to Ground Zero itself?

I live and work in Manhattan. The twin towers were visible from 5th Avenue and 55th st. The blue light is only visable for up to a mile away. Thanks for the reminder I will make may way to lower Manhattan tonight or tomorrow.

You can see the lights from all over lower Manhattan - the angle will determine whether you see separate or merged lights. I found the Village, along 7th Av., to be a good vantage point. And when I grabbed a taxi back to the Westside, I asked him to drive to various points where I could see the lights - FRD parkway, for example, is good. If you visit WTC in the day, you actuially will need a ticket to go out onto the wooden viewing platform. Have a good trip - I found it to be very moving.

I can see them from my office at 23rd St & 6th Avenue. I imagine you can see them from most places on 6th and maybe 7th Avenue, as long as your view isn't completely blocked. I could also see them (of course) from everywhere in SoHo and Tribeca. But the best views I've witnessed so far are from Brooklyn, either from the Brooklyn Bridge, under the bridge, or from the Brooklyn Heights Promenade. I imagine views from Jersey City are also spectacular. Views form the Empire State Building would be amazing too on nights where there is good visibility.

You shouldn't go to ground zero to view the lights because they are not right AT ground zero, they're a few blocks away.

Are there any good spots from further south in NJ to view the lights? And when does it end?

I don't know about seeing them further south in NJ. I'd guess you can see them from the places where the WTC was visible before.

They're supposed to be on until 11 at night, through the end of the month (I've heard). But I bet they'll be around longer.

At the time the lights were unveiled, i think the closing date was April 14 (made a note of it cuz it meant they'd still be visible when we got there). No idea whether that date has been changed though.
