Where to Rent Scooters in Maui?
 

hello everyone
i am looking to rent 2 Scooters for my fiance and myself we are renting are car but that will be takin care of with our air/hotel/car fair

However, we are looking to rent the 2 Scooters for possibly 2 days or 1 day and a few hours another day.

does anybody know of a good place they have used or recomend?

Maui is NOT scooter friendly.

A quick "Maui scooter rental" Google search will get you all the info you need.

We are traveling to Maui in April and want to do the same thing. I found Aloha Toys in Lahain and they do vespa scooter rentals. I don't know anything about them or scootering in Maui - but that's my research thus far.

The type of scooters we want to rent are vespa's or the like we want the kind of Euro style.

I just don't know where you would ride scooters in Maui - you can't ride them along the beach, and the roads are real roads with fast cars. I've done the scooter thing in Europe (Viareggio and north, Juans Les Pins and west) and there just doesn't seem to be a similar "justification" for scooters in Maui. Sorry.

It is really not a great island for this type of activity. The locals and tourists driving are not used to scooters on the roads. The roads are not planned for a lane for scooters. It could be very dangerous.

As I mentioned on your other thread, Maui is not really an island for riding motorscooters around. I think it could be pretty dangerous in most places.

we were lloking to ride the scooters to get around lahaina and the area there not to travel the whole island we are going to have a car 2 we just thought it would be nice to ride in the sun to beach parking lot and to dinner and to look around the town.
Vespa's work even here in new york they can go fast enough that i would think they wouldnt bother drivers. does nobody ride motor cycles in maiu ( i hope i dont sound bad because now that i reading this i am afraid if you dont here the qustion in my voice you might take this the wronge way)
i mean i thought it would be fine now im thinkking it isnt.

i have never been there so i dont know i wasnt thing about getting a batterypower 10 mile an hour scooter i was thinking a high powered vespa we ride 4 wheelers and dirt bikes and motor cycles where i am from and we thought it would be nice with the lovly weather on our hooneymoon.

You will be fine.

Some here don't realize that Vespas don't need a special lane. The top speed on a Vespa or similar scooter is ~65 mph. You share the road with cars, not use a bicycle lane. No different than a Harley, well not as much fun, but really not different.

Do a google search and you'll find a scooter rental. We have done it before and we're still here today.

Well, sadly for me, I would use that Vespa to get as far away from Lahaina as I could! For me it is wonderful for a stroll, some shopping and dinner, but after more than a visit or two, can't help but call it LaHainus. Thus the dangerous windy roads with unfamiliar tourists and locals that are trying to pass unfamiliar tourists to get on with their day.

I wouldn't call a Vespa a scooter. It is in a class of its own.

I have rented scooters on multiple islands

I have visited Maui multiple times

I am familiar with the infrastructure of Maui

I am familiar with riding on scooters

I would save my money and spend it flying with Armin rather that scootering on a Vespa and ducking tourists and angry locals.

Vespa itself calls their product "scooters" - what would you call them?

Oops, but to answer the question, yes there is a rental place right on Front Street in Lahaina. We stayed at Lahaina Shores hotel and walked by a rental shop on the way going in towards town.

With the way that my finance's schedule is right now he is a full time student so hes out of the house at 6 am and gets home at 3 and goes to work at 4 and gets home at 1:30 its hard to plan with him and i work fulltime to and his days off i work so thank god that is all changeing the end of march but i like to ask for help and other people's thoughts he gets home and is so tired he falls a sleep setting up "very sad" so thank you all.
I go to places like McDonald's where i have been a hundred times look at the menu like i never seen it before and then a couple minutes later i order the same thing i always ordered ken usually helps me make my decisions when it involves him.i just want to plan a trip of a lifetime there.

i am very independent but like all women i can ask for
directions no and then with total ease.

By the way i love to see people making conversations with each other on any links of mine it makes me feel like i had part in a conversational piece.
however,Vespa does call them selves a scooter company they are the scooter of all scooters.
they are fast like a motor cycle like what AAFrequentFlyer said it isn't as fun as a harley but its petty much the same. it's the Harley of all scooters it is like a dirt bike compared to amountain bike its has two wheels the same concept but one will leave you in the dust.

I have read the question about where to rent a scooters / mopeds on Maui, and I'm very surprised that the replies are so negative about the idea of scootering around on Maui.

This is because I have visited Maui 4 times in the past 3 years, and I have exclusively travelled around on a scooter/moped the last 3 times. Conditions for riding around on scooters have dramatically improved in the past couple years. This is because most every major road now has designated bicycle lanes, and since mopeds/scooters are considered bicycles on Maui, scooters are encouraged to use these lanes.

For example, the trip from the main town of Kahului to one of the main beach areas of Kihei now is super-easy and safe because the scooter lane is actually a set aside lane that is separated from the road by about 10 feet. A lovely ride through the cane fields!

Riding a scooter has become so addictive on Maui that I would highly recommend everyone who has considered it to look again with a fresh pair of eyes. It seems very safe so far and I have not only driven a scooter up to Lahaina and back from Kihei, but also over the West Maui Mountains three times and now to Hana two times. Very fun to see Maui in the open air!

One last note. On my last trip to Maui last month, I rented a scooter from this one company that delivered the scooter right to me. It was called Maui Moped Rental or Maui Scooter Rentals or something like that. They brought it to me where I was staying at the Maui Coast hotel in Kihei, and it was a fun ride for the whole next week, then they picked it up from me when I was done. Did not have to walk to town to get it and then leave it when I was done.
