where to rent a casita in santa fe

There are so many beautiful casita rentals in Santa Fe. Having never been there before, where would be the best area in which to rent. There is reference to the Plaza, Canyon Rd, north, east, west, downtown etc.....! Any suggestions?

Lots on here about rentals in Santa Fe:

use the search box on the top of page and type in Santa Fe Rentals, or Santa Fe hotels or just Santa Fe.

What price range? Is this your first time in SF? Do you want to be near the Plaza [shopping, some historical things] or Canyon Road [near the art galleries] -that is to ask - what do you want to see/do in SF?

BeachGirl is our SF go to person, click on her name on that thread above and find all of her great suggestions.

Thanks for your response. We would probably prefer to be near the Plaza. Is there any direction around the plaza that is preferable? Some rentals say things like "two blocks west of the Plaza". Is anything withing walking distance to the Plaza a safe bet? We are hoping for a two bedroom under $200. There seem to be a few to choose from but I just want to make sure I'm in a good location. thanks!

deartx, when are you going to Santa Fe? Your reference to "under $200" would mean more if we knew when you were going to SF.

There are several nice areas around SF that are withing walking distance -- some more glamorous than others. One being Canyon Road -- it has the draw of galleries, restaurants and just the charm of a very old street in Santa Fe. Because of that it commands a higher price than that of another neighborhood also within walking distance of the plaza, say around the Guadalupe/Railroad district which is quaint in its own way).

If you can get an address from the owner that would really help you by using mapquest/yahoo maps to find where it is located. I/we could help a little more as well knowing that. I guess it depends on whether you want to walk to the plaza or drive, have a charming neighborhood or one that has a nice room and kitchen, etc.

Done plenty of all so if you can give me some specifics, even by email, I would be happy to give you my 2 cents.

BeachGirl..We will be heading there March 19 -22. It will be our family of 4 (16 and 20 year old kids) looking for a quick getaway. We'd probably lean toward more historic things than art museums/stores (although we'd do some of that as well). If we had to choose a hotel, which would you recommend for our family. It would be great to walk to things but if we had to drive it's not the end of the world. Obviously, we want to experience the charm of Santa Fe and would prefer not to be in a place that is commercial in feel. That's why I was look at renting a casita but we're open to a hotel that would foot the bill as well.
Thanks for your help!

hi deartx. we rented this one a couple of thanksgivings back and it was fine for us (1 couple). It looks like they've remodelled - the couch downstairs was a futon before and but the downstairs can serve as another room if it's kids. It was small but for the price and the location, we really liked it. They even had a grill we used to make buffalo steaks from whole foods one night (thanksgiving night I made a thanksgiving meal for 2 + buffalo). if that particular one doesn't work for you, they have other casitas that has the 2 bedrooms but the location was great. very easy walking blocks from the main part of the plaza.

you should be to scroll down and click on "All My Rental Listings". The owners were really nice to work with (I believe it was their son we talked to). Call and ask the other casitas next to that one.
