Where to go over July 4th?
 

Dh & I have off from July 4-8 (like the rest of America, I'm sure). We're looking for a nice 5-day trip somewhere in the US or possibly British Colombia. Somewhere it won't be extremely hot & not overly crowded. Any ideas? We were thinking maybe a national park but are afraid it will be too crowded. Thanks for any tips!

So many choices if including all the US! What would be an easy flight for you?

We've been several places over the holiday and here are some of our favorites (off the top of my head):

Seattle. Great time of year and lots to do and day trips as well.

Vail, CO, is very beautiful as well. Hiking, horseback riding, cattle rides, canoeing,shopping, great restaurants, etc.

Santa Fe, NM, is a regular stop for us and not too hot in July. Our home away from home so I can't say enough about it.

Camden, Maine. Charming town and beautiful weather.

Of course any vacation destination or interesting place is likely to be crowded during the Fourth of July holiday. There are 1,000's of places:
the aforementioned Santa Fe; the Finger Lake region in upstate New York; the Adirondaks (sp?), Squam Lake, New Hampshire; Nantucket; numerous places along the coast of Maine; Jackson, WY; Lake Winnebago, WI.

Chicago has the Taste of Chicago during this time. We went a couple of years ago and it was a lot of fun.

As you mentioned British Columbia . . . I would suggest a stay in Victoria on Vancouver Island. We loved it and in hindsight might have skipped Vancouver and Seattle altogether if we'd had any idea how special Vancouver Island is.
