Where to go on the west coast of Florida ???

I live on the east coast of Florida and i am planning a girl's weekend in Sept. We would like to go to the west coast, but don't know where to go. We want a beach front place to stay and a good night life. Anyone have some good ideas ??? Thanks so much...

Siesta Key, Sarasota. Lots of, well, night life at Siesta Key Village, good beaches during the day.

You might check out South Seas Resort on Captiva. How about Naples?

The response might be dependent on your group's age range. With that said, Longboat Key and Siesta Key are really nice, with great beaches and restaurants in the area. Night life is good, but no alternative rock. For the younger set, Clearwater beach south to St. Petersburg. My wife -- she and her friends, 40-50 -- hit the Longboat and Siesta Key area for their "girls weekend" out. Hope that helps.

Sarasota, mainland:

Ceviche - 3 story playground with a rooftop bar
Gator Club - a Sarasota classic (say hi to Stacy or Andrew)
5'0 Clock Club - up and coming national acts plus better local talent

Siesta Key - all clubs are more relaxed, beach wear type clubs
Beach Club - little older crowd, good live music, little more upscale
SKOB - after beach parties, live music
Daiquiri Deck - drink prices are not a good value, no live music but interesting hang out
Gilligans - younger crowd, some live music, mostly DJ after 10pm. Hip-hop etc...
The Hub - restaurant/bar, lively, some live music but mostly known for "let's just hang out" crowd.

All are within couple of blocks of each other.

Longboat - older crowd, nice beaches but not much of lively nightlife....
