Where to go in Oregon?
 

My husband, 14 year old son and I will spend a total of two weeks in Oregon this summer. We plan to have a few days in Portland and five nights in Yachats. Where else should we go?

Crater Lake is worth a visit. Ditto Tillamook, Newport, Depoe Bay on the coast.

Spend some time on the Historic Columbia River Highway. Drive along and stop at many spectacular vistas and waterfalls along the way. Beautiful...<BR>Follow the loop to Mount Hood, and explore Timberline Lodge, also a beautiful place.<BR>Enjoy, it is my favorite place on earth!!

The Shakespeare Festival in Ashland is well worth checking out and Eugene is a very nice college town.

Why the recent attraction to Yachats? I've lived in Oregon over 40 years and haven't been there more than a couple times. Hmmm....<BR><BR>Since you've already got time on the coast, I'll give you some more inland suggestions. Perhaps my favorite place in the state is Black Butte Ranch, 30 miles NW of Bend in central OR. Aside from the golf, tennis, horseback riding, swimming, and bicycling available at the Ranch, it's a good base for hiking, fishing, and other favorite central OR activities. It also provides a nice contrast to the weather you'll probably find on the coast or in Portland.<BR><BR>Let's see, then there's the Shakespearean Festival in Ashland, Wallowa Lake, SunRiver Resort, the Pendleton Round-Up, jet-boat up the Rogue, or maybe Mt. Saint Helens (okay, it's in WA).

I just returned from the most amazing Oregon vacation. I highly recommend exploring the Columbia Gorge. You can be hiking waterfalls and stunning vistas just 45 minutes outside Portland. The Columbia Gorge was the greatest hiking place we've ever been. Then we went to Cannon Beach on the coast and it was marvelous. You could stay there several days enjoying the beach and the nearby forests. I wouldn't recommend Tillamook (south of Cannon Beach) because I didn't think the scenery or the beaches were as nice as those in the Cannon area. You'll love it!

Tillamook? Beaches? There are no beaches in Tillamook cause it's not on the coast. It's inland. You've been misinformed. You can see cows though and huge cheese factories if that's what floats your boat.
