Where to go in later March for reasonable family Ski Trip

We would be interested in an area that will have decent snow, family friendly. a town to explore and easy access & short distance to mountain. We are all intermediate skiers who have skied in the northeast but never out west. My kids are 10 & 13 and would be interested in programs for their age group and level. Any suggestions?

Steamboat, Colorado has been rated one of the best family ski resorts by several magazines. They have lots of trails for intermediates, great ski school and a nice town. Skiing should still be pretty good in March.

Marj, March is still considered peak season for most Rockies ski resorts so make your reservations now! Go for the higher elevation resorts like Utah & Colorado. Glad to answer any specific question on Utah - I live in Park City and have skied the western US for 30 years.

We have gone skiing every spring break in March for the past 12 years. I would suggest Steamboat (went there 2 years) as a great family ski area and neat town. Also liked Crested Butte. We are going back there this year as found a good ski in/ski out location. Keystone and Copper are good resorts. A lot of people like Breckenridge we we thought it had too many lift lines. We loved the town though. If you have specific questions you can email me.

consider going to calgary and lake louise/banff ... you'll save money due to the canadian dollar exchange and it's beautiful national park area out there

Marj, its going to be hard to find a bargain in March. Spring Break you know. You said that you wanted close to town which will be more costly. Beaver Creek is very expensive unless you stay in Avon. You might condsider the Towns of Frisco, Dillon, Silverthorne in Summit County for skiing at Breck, Keystone or Copper they will be less. Try looking at www.summitnet.com for deals.

The Lake Tahoe area should have some great deals in March. I would look at staying on the North Shore instead of the South Shore where the Casinos are.

I like skiing Utah. Stay in Salt Lake or Park City. There are LOTS of ski areas at different prices and there is lots to see in both Salt Lake and Park City (just a short drive away).
