Where to go in late October???
 

My DH and I have a wedding in Chicago at the end of October. We then want to travel somewhere for 3 nights. I *thought* we agreed on the Smokey Mountains but he has now changed his mind.

We live in NH. He works for American Airlines so we will be non-revving. So that rules out hard to get to locations like HI...can be impossible to non-rev.

He hates the beach. We like to hike. We enjoy wine and good food. We wouldn't mind catching a show somewhere.

Any suggestions?

San Francisco and/or Napa? Unless that includes non-revving which I have no idea what that means. :)

Sorry, non-revving is non-revenue flying...you fly for free. BUT you only get on if there are empty seats. So places like HI are very hard to get to. :)

Don't know what "non-rev" means?

If San Francisco bay area, you would have SFO, OAK and SJC as airports to choose from. CA gold country would be nice for hikes and you could fly into Sacramento. Austin and TX hill country would be another one.

Also, on Zion/Bryce: LV to Zion - approx 2 1/2 hrs., Zion to Bryce - approx 2 hrs. (then returning Bryce to Vegas - approx. 4 hrs.)

Knowing that it takes an entire day between flying time and time zone changes from CA to NH, I personally would not choose the west coast for the 3 night trip. We've visited New Orleans for 3 nights in early November and enjoyed fantastic weather and great food. The New Orleans School of Cooking is part show/part eating. (actually a full lunch) There's still time in the morning for a leisurely brunch and return to MHT. Charleston would be another choice for that time of year. Sounds like you might be more interested in hiking and an outdoors trip though.
If you don't mind the flying time, how about Sedona?

I had mentioned New Orleans and Savannah to my DH and he didn't sound thrilled about either. He's the difficult one here :)

I was thinking Vegas...but it might be tough getting there.

I would suggest Vegas also. For such a quick trip, it is a good place to go. I fly non-rev all the time, so I know what you mean. I fly to Vegas non-rev at least once a year. Sometimes we catch the flight, sometimes we have to wait for another one. Last Christmas we ended up flying into Phoenix and then driving to Vegas. Not a bad drive though.

As already mentioned late Oct is perfect for Zion, fly to LV and drive 1.5 hours.

Or, fly to SLC and drive to Moab, 4.5 hours.

Weather and temps are usually perfect for hiking at that time of year. Also, no crowds, beautiful blue sky.

I go down to one or the other every year at that time for my b-day present to myself! This year it's Moab...
