where to go in Alaska on Oct
 

Hi,
I'm planning a trip to Alaska on Oct this year from 1, oct to 13, oct. And I suppose I will rent a car in Anchorage and visit as many as beautiful sights in two weeks. While I know Denali would be closed at that time. Will the south of AK still in autumn? Which tourist attractions would be suitable to visit at this time? Will the roads too difficult to drive to Fairbanks? Thanks! :)

In all likelihood, winter will not have arrived on the main roads (possible but unlikely). The farther north or the higher up you get increases the chances of encountering winter. There are a couple of mountain passes that might have snow; but our roads are generally well kept. I'd just check our road report site on a daily basis: http://511.alaska.gov/alaska511/mappingcomponent/index to make sure you don't encounter any problems.

If there hasn't been a big snow fall on Denali's park road, I'd recommend heading there, visiting the Visitor's Center and driving in as far as the road is open/allowed (see: http://www.nps.gov/dena/planyourvisi...der-season.htm)

Autumn will likely have run it's course; but weather is freaky and you never know.

Why do you want to go to Fairbanks?

In Fairbanks, it will likely be winter by then.
