WHERE TO GO FOR THE MILLENIUM?
Looking for ideas on where to celebrate the Millenium. We will (at that time) be traveling with a 2-1/2 year-old. Preferably something on the quiet side. Thank you.
I heard that it is not a very good idea to fly or have surgery for at least a couple of weeks past the new year of 2000.

It should be perfectly fine to travel after the year 2000. Computer specialists have spent countless hours debugging the computer systems. His toric Williamsburg, Virginia or Charleston, South Carolina are quieter yet have charm and a family atmosphere. I have been to both of these places and they are fun for children and adults.

Y2K may or may not cause problems for travelers (who knows). One thing for sure is that to travel during that time will be the biggest rip-off in the history of the world. Expect hotel rates to triple.

Krista did make some good suggestions, though. I would also add St. Augustine, FL - right outside of Jacksonville.
How about the island of kuai in hawaii? it's not mainstream hawaii and new year's on the beach sounds very romantic!! even with a two year old, who will most likely be asleep! happy new year!

Where to go? If I was you, I'd be at home. This Y2K thing is going to be alot worse than people expect- some pilots have even said that they don't want fly on Jan 1st 2000. For one thing the air traffic control system all over the world is probably going to bite the dust one way or another. ATM's may not work, Utility companies suppling electricity will fail. To give you an idea, the U.S. government is printing up alot of extra cash to put out in the economy because they are expected a cash horde- if bank computers don't work, you can't get your money, and you don't eat. Credit Card- won't work either. I'll be sitting at home with a big chunk of cash, a gun and some ammo...good luck.

Whatever you do..make reservations in advance and get to your destination at least a week before. Try to schedule it around the crowds...especially NY.

Go to Miami, Florida...Maui, Hawaii, Chicago, IL...anywhere you go..it'll be a party for sure.

Good luck!
