Where to go for my husband's 40th birthday in March?
My husband's turning 40 in March and I would like take him somewhere for about 4-5 days. I need some ideas please... I have no idea where to go?
I'd like to invite his best friend and his wife as they haven't seen each other in 3 years - they live in Arkansas and I'd have to pay for their trip. We live in Houston, Texas and I thought about going to Vegas but I think it might be too cold. I also thought about Florida because it's warm but we've been there so many times. Any advice please? Budget of about $2,500.

Airfare for four is going to eat up almost half your budget. Their airfare will be more expensive flying out of little rock.
In Vegas you can get good prices on hotels to help your budget. Lots of shows. You wouldn't have to pay for the gambling. Drinks are free.
March is spring break, so Florida could be busy with college kids and families.
What does everyone enjoy doing? My husband would want a trip that involves hiking and zipping.

You might get a good package deal on a hotel/flight to Vegas. Check the hotel sites where they tell the prices for each night which vary greatly depending on what conferences, races etc. are happening. If you go do rent a car and visit Valley of Fire, Hoover Dam, Red Rock Canyon, etc.

<Everybody drive to NOLA>
Or just drive there from Houston and pay for your friends to fly from Arkansas. Either way New Orleans is a great choice in March.
Vegas will be plenty warm at that time of year, that shouldn't be an issue at all.

Nola does sound good, but Vegas isn't too cold in March. I've been there in winter and it wasn't that bad. It's not going to be that warm, however, it's true -- maybe 50-60 in afternoon.
You might think of some place in Arizona or New Mexico. It does depend what kind of things he likes. Phoenix, for example, vs. Tucson or Sedona. Sedona should be up to 65-70 in daytime in March, Tucson a bit warmer. Santa Fe is similar to Vegas.

What costs will you be taking on for other couple - just air and hotel or everything? Shows, food, drink can get expensive in Las Vegas - and it is not like there is anything else to do there but spend money.
What does your husband like to do - outdoor, museums, food, sports? Are there 3-4 day cruises out of Texas and would he like that? Since you are paying, the advantage is that you pay once and then don't need to deal with who is paying issues every time a check arrives for some meal or event.
