Where to go for Multi-Family Vacation with Children?

In the spring of 2004, my family was one of four families (8 adults and 11 children) who rented a large cabin at Oak Haven Resort in Sevierville, TN (great place to go by the way). Want to vacation together again next year but need ideas on where to go. We would like to rent a house/cabin/houseboat somewhere with lots for the families to do. No more than a day's drive from Detroit, Michigan area would be ideal. Any suggestions welcome! Thanks!

Warm or cold and when in the Spring?

How about renting a beach house? Wild Dunes Resort would be wonderful and Charleston is a 20 minute drive away.

Kids and adults always love the beach.

Pokagon State Park in Angola, Indiana (north of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, right at the border of Indiana and Michigan)----Beautiful state park sits on Lake James. Potowatomi Inn is gorgeous lodge-style inn but there is also camping and cabin rental. State Park has horseback riding, hiking trails, bicycle rental, and sand beach with lifeguards if you go in the summer. I beleive it also has lake access if you bring your own boat. Cross country ski trails and wild snow tobaggan trail if you go in the winter.

We've vacationed on Lake James since I was a kid and its gorgeous. Great skiing and tubing as well as fishing. Lots of lakes interconnect in that area, by way of small channels.

Town of Angola has selection of chain restaurants and standard Walmart type places for supplies. Has fun small scale amusement park and go cart race place.

We arelooking to go in late spring/early summer. Looking for warm weather destination for outdoor activities, especially after a long Michigan winter!
