Where to go for family reunion - 4 nights?

Hi all - we are a large family who've always camped together in the past. We are 7 siblings (most with spouses), my parents, and 15 nieces/nephews. We are changing our plans this year to a non-camping type of excursion. It will be 4 nights over a weekend in July. We live all over WA State and one in Astoria, OR. So - we want to make it somewhat "central" to all. We'll need activities for the kids and most definitely a pool. We're kicking around Leavenworth, Long Beach, Ocean Shores and Crescent Bar. We will need to be somewhat economical to take into account all my siblings various rates of income but we don't want to stay in a Motel 6 either. Probably $100-$150/night is about right. Any suggestions on a destination or particular resort/hotel? What about Quinalt Beach Resort? Or condos in Crescent Bar? Any other thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Jim

I love the Leavenworth area. There are several hotels, but also loads of rental homes in the area.

A good friend in the Seattle area has a large family gathering like this and they go to La Push every summer.

Another option, not too far away, is down here in Oregon at Sunriver (near Bend). We do a large family gathering every year here and it works well. There are all size homes, as well as condos, and the lodges. Several pools, over 30 miles of bike paths, a marina, stables...basically all sorts of things to do for all tastes.

I've posted this before but we had such a good time am glad to pass it along.

Take a look at Washington State PArks website. There are several places within parks that accomodate several people or families.

www,parks.WA.gov
Click rental Places
Click Vacation Houses

Check out Fort Columbia's Scabouroug Hosue
or Cape Diappointment Light house keepers residences.

Kah-Nee-Ta (http://www.kahneeta.com/)on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation in Oregon is an interesting destination. There's a variety of priced loding, from RV to teepees, to luxury rooms. Activities include the hot-spring fed pool, golf, trail rides, hiking, a casino, etc.

The "resort" is fairly spread-out, but does have transportation between the various areas.

To my mind, the biggest down-side to it is that you're fairly limited to the expensive food at the hotel. Unless you're in the lodging at "the village" which is down by the pool, which has kitchenettes.

It sounds like there are about 30 of you?

I was going to recommend the Washington State Parks housing (old officers' quarters) at Fort Flagler on Marrowstone island, but even if you took all the houses, they only hold 20 people. Fort Worden State Park might have enough room, but they get booked up.

I think mms' idea of Sunriver is the best. It's a bit longer drive, but for 4 nights the hour or so extra is well worth it. They have everything---swimming pools, tennis courts, bike paths, hiking, horseback riding, activities for the kids, lavalands to explore, canoeing, fishing, nice dining,. . . You would need to rent several large houses, but one of the many rental agencies could co-ordinate several houses in the same area.

We spent a long weekend there last summer (all adults, group of 8) and had a terrific time.

I'll second Sunriver or Leavenworth. We're from Seattle with a family about that size. We have done reunions at Long Beach, Lincoln City, Leavenworth etc. Although we're used to living in the gray rainy weather, it can really bum some of us out to vacation in it! It just seems easier for my big family to get along when the sun is shining! Going east of the mountains virtually guarantees nice warm and DRY weather. Have a fun trip!

I would definitely recommend the Sunriver area. With a large selection of vacation homes, activities, and great weather there is something about Sunriver that will appeal to almost everyone in a family.

Central Oregon and Sunriver have about 300 days of sun a year, so during the Summer you are almost guaranteed sunny weather.

Sunriver has a number of vacation rental companies that have fine selection of homes. A couple to check out are Village Properties and Sunset Realty.

Sunriver has the pools, bike trails, you can float the Deschutes River. Our family just loves to go there because we can all do our own thing and then get together at the end of the day.

Hope this helps.
