Where to go for anniversary getaway - continental US?
 

My husband and I are planning a trip for just the two of us in late spring 2002. Any suggestions? <BR><BR>We live in the Midwest. We will go for 4 days. Since we don't have a lot of time, we don't want to fly somewhere and then have to drive four more hours. <BR><BR>Our last two trips like this were to New Orleans and Key West. We enjoyed both - ate great food, saw some sights our kids would not have had the patience for, and enjoyed exploring each unique city. The down side of Key West was the drive from Miami - it was pretty, but it really cut into the four days.<BR><BR>Any ideas?

Boston - lots of history, fun city<BR>NYC - whatever strikes your fancy<BR>DC - get a refresher course on the USA<BR>You even have time to take Continental to London, Manchester or Glasgow for a 2-night stay.

The San Francisco Bay area is a great city for a romantic getaway. And if you like wine, then Napa is worth atleast a day's visit. <BR><BR>I know that you mentioned continental US, but would you be opposed to Canada? If not, I think Vancouver would be a great destination as well. One of my favorite cities.

I should have said this in my first post - sorry. We've been to Vegas, Seattle, Chicago, and some other places on similar trips. I mentioned New Orleans and Key West because those were our favorites for a 'just us' trip.<BR><BR>We considered D.C., but our kids are almost old enough to appreciate it, so we'll save that for a family trip. Boston and Maine are both on the short list.<BR><BR>Thanks again for all your help.

Lauranne, two cities come to mind that have not yet been mentioned.<BR><BR>Charleston SC--beautiful historic district, great restaurants, good walking, quite warm in late Spring, and great if you can catch the Spoletto Festival around that time, beautiful beaches within 1/2 hour drive (Kiawah, Wild Dunes) although not warm enough for swimming, may be warm enough for walking/sunning.<BR><BR>Santa Fe/Taos--wonderful places & four days would be plenty (fly into Albuquerque, approx. 1 hour to Santa Fe); I have been in October and weather was great, not sure about late Spring.

I second the recommendations for Santa Fe/Taos or Vancouver. Very different areas,but both spectacular in their own ways.

Palm Springs is one of my favorite places to get away for some fun and sun. But be warned that it can all ready be getting pretty hot out in the desert in late spring.<BR><BR>And as for San Diego, it's such a great place for families, I think I'd save it for a fanily vacation and bring the kids along.<BR><BR>Vancouver and San Francisco are two wonderful west coast destinations for a romantic getaway.

Lauranne,<BR><BR>My husband and I love getaways for celebrations,too...how about San Antonio,Tx. S.F. and the Napa Valley, Monterey and Carmel, Calif or Charleston S.C. A B&B at any of those places would be great! Have Fun!
